Anyone having problems with ichat after lion install?

I just installed Lion and having problems getting iChat to work. It won't signon to my aim account. I tried deleting all accounts and restarting.

I had the plugin Chax install which is an extension to iChat. I was wondering if anyone else was having problems?

Thanks

Hi,

The Plug-ins for iChat 4 and 5 are in the app itself.

That is to say highlight the App in the Applications Folders and then Right/Control Click it

In the Menu select Show Package Contents.

Open the Contents folder.

As iChat 6 allows Plug-ins as Add-ons then also check Hard Drive/Library/Application Support (you may have to chose Apple here.

I don'tr have Lion yet and I am suggesting likley places.

Hi,

As Seanus says you have iChat 5 on a Lion Install.

iChat has matched the OS level since IChat 3 (iChat Updates are in the OS Update (or Uppgrade in this case) )

Check your Application Folder has not got two iChats.
If you previously moved iChat from the Applications Folder (Into a sub Folder or similar) then Right CLick the current DOCK icon for iChat and shose "Show in Finder" to find out where it is.

The Current icon can be dragged from the DOCK (and let go for little puff of smoke animation)

The proper App can then be dragged to the DOCK which will recreate the Icon in the DOCK and the Proper link to the right app.

If you do not have two versions of iChat re-run the Lion Install.

I've had tons of trouble with iChat. I've got it to where it logs into all my different accounts, but I'm having color and effects issues. The new effects Just DON"T WORK. The work fine in Photobooth.

I deleted Chax, 3ivx, and iGlasses. I don't have any other plugins installed.

Sometimes my color is fine, next time it's very red.

I also switched it to 64 bit mode and it crashes as soon as I choose any effect.

Oh, sigh!

Hi,

The com.apple.ichat.plist will still be holding pointers to iGlasses and Chax

In the Finder go to the Go Menu > Go to Foler

Enter ~/Library/Preferences.

Find the mentioned .plist and drag it to the Trash

Restart iChat if Open (this will rewrite the .plist from defaults)

You will need to reset all the iChat Preferences you changed from Defaults.

Font Choice and Colour of Text.
Colour of IM Background (Balloons or other)

Any Chat Window background

Incoming Overrides.

Saved Transcripts and options

Anything in the General section.

Saved Status Messages will need to be recreated.

(only your accounts are unaffected).

Hi,

Tom Fletcher had a specific issue caused by having Chax installed.

Is this what you have ?

Have you Uninstalled it ?

If so you may also have to delete the com.apple.ichat.plist so ichat is not still looking for Chax.

I just tried this procedure step by step but it didn't work for me. Right after I upgraded to Lion even though I successfully sign on whenever I try to chat with anyone or do anything else with iChat it crashes. I don't see the icon neither in my Command+Tab nor Force Quit so I can't get into the settings since I can't access the menu neither. Has anyone found a fix for this problem yet? I have all the latest updates.

it will rarely connect. when it does connect, it'll show that all my contacts are available AND it can show several different status's at the same time. the dropdown in the menu bar will have one, the app will have a different one in the iChat window and the app's Accounts dropdown in the iChat menu will be diffwerent from each of those.

also, one will show i'm connected when i'm obviously not. all happened after thge update to Lion

Anyone having problems with ichat after lion install?
