I can't delete apps from the launcher window. No black "X's."

Interesting - I have two icons for Chess, DVD Player etc. When I launched the different icons and then clicked "about" the apps are different versions of the same app. For Chess one was version 2.4.2 and one was 2.4.3 etc. In finder some of these are in different folders....

I think he means a folder. when you drop one app over another a folder is automatically created and the system gives it a name.If your not happy with the name you can change it to what you like.

I have bought many Apps from the Apps Store and I don't see the X to delete Apps when they are wiggling.

Perhaps it is also related to the authority of you account, my account does not have Administrator level.

I have the same problem and about 8 pages of worthless apps compounded by Parallels which dumps every Windows app I have on there too. Clearly this function is not really designed for Pro users. Seems to be a reoccuring tendency with Apple these days. Cool idea, poor execution. For the time being, I'm spending hours putting all of my extra apps into Folder 1, Folder 2, Folder 3... 😠

You can actually delete the apps from the launchpad. You first have to delete it from the Application menu in the finder, or simply drag it from there to the trash, and get it empty. Then, go back to the launchpad, try to launch the app you just deleted, it will put a “?” on it. THEN you can drag it from the launchpad to the trash…

This is the way I deleted the Adobe Reader app from launchpad and it worked great. so to summarize Joss541:

1. Delete the non app store app from the Application folder
2. Empty Trash ⌃click Trash
3. Open Launchpad and click on the app icon and a “?” appears over icon
4. Drag the app icon to Trash

One way is to use finder's search function. Type in what you are looking for, In my case I was having a tough time of deleting Quicktime 7, Then drag the application to the trash and empty it. POOF problem solved. Hope that helps others.

Drag one icon over a second and the one on the bottom will convert into a container. I had to do this too, because Launcher also hangs on to all of Adobe's stupid installer programs. They need to fix Launcher or ditch it.

Sorry, but the Application Menu in the Finder simply takes you to the Applications Folder; so, there is nothing to DELETE in the FINDER APPLICATION MENU.
