Lion Finder sidebar color?

Hey!

I've just upgraded to Lion and I'm kinda dissapointed of many reasons, like the grey aweful sidebar icons in the finder app.

Is there any solution to change it back to the normal like it was in Snow Leopard?

The other thing is the Mail app. The new surface looks horrible as well, even if I change it to "classical view".

I want the older back! It was good as it was!

There is no way of adding color unless there is a third party solution out there. Grey is the new color!

I have to see what you typed in but there shouldn't be #!/bin/sh after the .app. I'll look to make sure I did the instructions right which I did check several times to make sure everything is correct. I wouldn't see how you would, /Library/Application Support/SIMBL/Plugins is where the Colorfulsidebar.bundle should be. The only thing I can think of is you typed something in wrong on step 2. It should be:

#!/bin/sh

killall Finder

open /System/Library/CoreServices/Finder.app

The only thing I can think of to show me how you did it, would be to delete the bootcoloricon that's in your Home folder and the bootcoloricon script and start over. If you don't have a screen recorder just download a trial version of Screenflow post it on Youtube and put it on private. Then just put my Athos523 screen name as one of those who can view it and send the link to me.

It worked it worked it worked!

What I finally ended up doing which made the icons show up in color is that I went to the users preferences and login items. I deleted the Total Finder and reloaded it. Perhaps it was still loading it from the pre Lion days.

Thank you SO much all of you for helping out with this!

Those videos were awesome, the jpgs and the scripts. I am not sure which finally did the trick but I'm sure they all worked.

This fixes it:

Step 1 : Download and install a utility from Mike Solomon calledSIMBLhere.

Step 2 : Download SIMBL-plugin with the nameColorfulSidebar here.

Step 3: Transfer the file ColorfulSidebar.bundle of DMG-image in the plugin folder SIMBL:

/ Library / Application Support / SIMBL / Plugins /

Step 4: Log off or restart the OS X Finder using the following command in Terminal:

killall Finder

The only drawback of this method is that the Finder will restart every time you turn on your computer. To do this, you can pick up a simple script that will run at startup.

To return the monochrome icons Finder – delete the file from the plugins folder ColorfulSidebar.bundle SIMBL.

Lions deprived us of colors in the sidebar. This is an impairing step back: it was oh so much quicker to spot the favorite folder or application through its color. In this new design, I might well give up using the sidebar at all!

What a pity. It's the first time I discover more and more disappointments rather than slick novelties when upgrading to a new OS.

For me it takes away much without providing anything in return. There have been studies that indicate that colour is recognised before other aspects? Possibly because it takes less processing time by the brain?

Whatever the reasons I would like Apple to bring back the colour. At the rate we are going everything is going to be grayscale and remind us of the big brother video in the 1984 advert - dull and drab.

For me, I don't even notice anymore. Workflow unimpeded. Colors are pretty and make for a nice looking sidebar, but constant work on the Macbook makes going to the right icon a very simple task, just as typing is, so can't see any reasoning in colors.

But different strokes and all that I suppose
