Lion Finder sidebar color?

Hey!

I've just upgraded to Lion and I'm kinda dissapointed of many reasons, like the grey aweful sidebar icons in the finder app.

Is there any solution to change it back to the normal like it was in Snow Leopard?

The other thing is the Mail app. The new surface looks horrible as well, even if I change it to "classical view".

I want the older back! It was good as it was!

There is no way of adding color unless there is a third party solution out there. Grey is the new color!

I AM FINALLY SUPER HAPPY! No apple has not fixed this yet but now Total Finder has. I LOVE total finder just because I love splitting the window into to separate ones. But, the side bar would always default back to the ugly boring grey icons. But I just installed the update and the side bar is all colored! Woo hoo! The fantastic guys who made it work with the colored icons with all the coding in terminal would work but I could never get it to start that way. Even after installing the SIMBL thing and the bootcoloricon. It would be there until I restarted no matter what I did with the log ins and terminal. But now it all works. Just spend the money. Its totally worth it. This is the only solution that I found to work on my system. Mac Pro desktop tower Lion

I thoroughly agree that the lost colors in OSX Lion is a tragedy. Being a visual person, artist and photographer I use color for visual ques every waking moment of my day. The loss of color in the sidebar icons often makes me stumble while finding my place.

Additionally, color went away from icons in Mail.

And the relocation of certain icons in Mail also makes no sense to me. To add an attachment I have to move to the right side of the Compose Message window. It's counter-intuitive to the way English is written. Why move it to the upper right when my writing begins on the left and often my mouse pointer is on the left while I change the insertion point.

These changes are simply ridiculous. Been a Mac user since 1988 and most changes have been amazing, but Lion is kind of funky.

Too much GRAY. Reminds me of China under Chairman Mao...gray, drab, bland.....remind you of anything?

Apple, bring back the color to our sidebars. Or at least make it an option for those of us who like to THINK DIFFERENT!

I think you hit the target with that, China, it may be a move to placate them.

I know that I detest it so much that I use SL on my main iMac and have Lion on a traded in beat up MBP.

I really think that Apple has found a rotten fruit here. I hate the way they force Mac users to adopt Lion to use iCloud while they pander to many versions of Windows.

Almost enough to switch me to Ubuntu, they have a cloud also.

I hope Mountain Lion addresses this but I am not holding my breath. I see many things I like in Lion but too many distasteful things that offset it to the point of making it too much like Windows ugly, not to mention hard to troubleshoot, way too many hoops to jump through.

They tried to make it so simple even a caveman could use it, only cavemen like color.

I guess you could say that I am anti Lion and you would be right, IT ***** BIG TIME.

I have used Apple computers since system 6 and have seen improvements all the way to Snow Leopard then came Lion, I guess all good things must end.

I have bought my last Apple other than iPhones and iPads which are almost enough to take the place of my iMac and MBP, because one cannot erase Lion and install SL, too bad.

Time to sell my Apple stock as it can only go down.

In mail create a new message and just right click and choose "customise toolbar" then drag them across to the left. Just tried that and it works.

Sorry about the lack of colour though cannot help you other than the whole SIMBL thing (which I use) and a little automator script runs when I log in to restart the finder and of course I manually copied colour icons into itunes and iphoto but with their countless updates how long will these tricks last?

Love the coloured smiley and font icons in this edit field though LOL

I said I have done this countless times.

Snow Leopard on my macbook air as I type right now and it shipped with Lion.

Perhaps the most recent machines may not have Snow Leopard drivers if the hardware has changed however I just answered dpeam's general stated concern. For most, downgrading is still possible.

There is no need to be rude.

Reverting to SL can indeed be done, it requires that the hardware has not been set for the new OS. That is now the case.

What happened to me was my iMac had a graphics card go bad, among other things, Apple replaced it with an i5, came with Lion which I promptly wiped the drive, zeroed it and attempted to install SL. Guess what, I now had a brick.

So your claim that it can be done is half true. If the Mac came with Lion but the hardware is still SL then reverting is easy, if it came with Lion and the Lion hardware then you are stuck.

So you have it countless times is indeed possible but I can say with 100% certainty that an older OS cannot be installed on a machine that the hardware has been configured for the OS that came on it.

That means that 10.4 cannot be installed on a machine that came with SL, different hardware.

If you bought a Mac before November 2011 then you have a 50-50 chance of reverting, cut that number by the number of people that have a clue how to even start.

My beef, if you will, is that Apple is becoming a nannie, very distasteful in my view. If they want Lion to look like it does, I am ok with that, just give us the choice of color and function.

I have an iPhone, iPod Touch and an iPad 2, the iOS works flawlessly and that is where it belongs. My computers require a higher powered OS including color (which iOS has by the way) and functionality that Lion lacks.

But I am only one among many, Apple is leaving us old timers behind. Not a good idea IMO.
