Lion Finder sidebar color?

Hey!

I've just upgraded to Lion and I'm kinda dissapointed of many reasons, like the grey aweful sidebar icons in the finder app.

Is there any solution to change it back to the normal like it was in Snow Leopard?

The other thing is the Mail app. The new surface looks horrible as well, even if I change it to "classical view".

I want the older back! It was good as it was!

There is no way of adding color unless there is a third party solution out there. Grey is the new color!

There is a 3rd party app called CandyBar that allows you to change any icon in your system, I think is like 30 bucks and the only thing you have to do is look up in google for mac icons that you like or make your own if you want to. I used it to change the color of my folders from blue to black and it worked perfectly on Lion, but I think there is also an option to change the sidebar icons as well.

I have found that Lion will only show the default icons in the side-bar (as per Grant Greene's answer).

All my custom-made icons for folders, etc show up in colour in their original format in the normal finder view.

But as soon as I place them in the side bar, they switch to the default grey look (with no colour OR custom graphic!).

This means I now have a big bunch of folder icons that all look the same in the sidebar! I thought these upgrades were all about creating more productive workflows? But this change is counter productive on quite a few levels.

NOT HAPPY APPLE!

After you downloaded and installed CandyBar you drag the icons from "my icons" to the dark place where the defaults icons are, you drop it on top of them and they will be replaced, after you are happy with your new selection of icons, a bar at the top of the app will pop up with a button for "change icons" and it will make you log out so the effect can be done. And that's pretty much it. Give it a try with the Candybar default icons, but you can find tons more out in the internet or you can make them yourself. I hope it helps, if not I'm pretty sure there are tutorials of Candybar in youtube.

Agree completely. Where did the color go? My wife and I bouth thought there was something wrong with the icons. Unfortunately that was the design of the program with no way to turn on color if desired. Very poor. I would have thought that Apple had a Human Design engineer on their staff that would chime in when the very smart geeks decided on layout "enhancements". All of the programs (iTunes, Finder, iCal,...) need to have color options restored. As in anything humans communicate with, color is another one of those tools to communicate an action. Grey communicates nothing. Unless Apple was communicating a lack of that understanding.
