Seriously no key repeat in Lion?

This has to be the most ******** thing I've ever seen. Only certain keys that apple has deemed repeat-worthy repeat when you hold them down. As someone who supports unix systems and is in VI a LOT, this is simply unacceptable! Make it a configuration option!

3) If instead of pressing the number representing the various choices, you use the mouse and click on the letter you want you get something like this: aä

So it appends the selected letter instead of replacing the original 'a' you typed....

No that is messed up!

I get the appended character result (at least in Chrome) regardless of which method I choose, click or number key. That is really annoying, seems like a common-sense oversight. =/

I really don't see what the big deal is here. I haven't used key repeat in years. It is hardly a "deal breaker" or "major flaw". It is a bug that I'm going to report. The bug is that there is still a key repeat preference pane that now serves no use. I have my fair share of complaints about Lion, but this sure isn't one of them.

Don't you know that iToys are the future? It's the cool and modern way! I filed a BR against this nonsense while beta-testing and never got an explanation. If you want to report this issue to Apple's engineering, send a bug report or an enhancement request via its Bug Reporter system. To do this, register as an Apple Developer—it's free and available for all Mac users and gets you a look at some development software. Since you already have an Apple username/ID, use that. Once a member, go to Apple BugReporter and file your bug report or enhancement request. You'll get a response and a follow-up number; thus, starting a dialog with engineering. Numbers count, so file away.

Then my quess is you don't use VI on remote systems every day to support over 6000 UNIX servers... Good for you. For me and a lot over other people, it's ridiculous that Apple just arbitrarily decides to remove a feature that's been on every computer since my 1978 Tandy TRS80 and provides no way to re-enable it.

Nope. I only use vi on about 12 remote Linux servers every day. Again, I haven't used key repeat in years. What good would it do me in vi? I write code all day. What am I going to repeat characters for? And regardless, key repeat still works fine in the Terminal. Ergo, I don't see the issue here.

Linux VI isnt a standard implementation... You can use arrow keys in Linux VI.

Old school VI on UNIX uses hjkl keys to move around. So to scroll through some code now I have to beat the crap out of my j key. Yes... for me it's a deal breaker and I'll go back to SL if they don't plan to fix it or if I can't find some elusive plist file to tweak.

Quoting myself from a few posts into this thread:

Key repeat works in terminal app apparently... But I'm remoting into another machine (I work from home and have to access my work computer via remote) and need it to work in EVERY app, not just the ones apple says. At least make it configurable! I may have to go back to snow leapord because of this...

I work at a large bank and can only get in via a remote desktop. Running windoze on that remote machine unfortunately, but it is what it is.

Funny. All of the characters I think anyone would ever really want to repeat, seem to repeat just fine.

I'm sorry. I knew about this feature on the iPad, but I had no idea it was now on Lion. I think it's great!

Seriously no key repeat in Lion?
