NTFS drive does not mount under Lion.

I have just upgraded to Lion. Previously I could mount my NTFS formatted drives. Now I cannot mount any. Disk utility sees the drives but will not mount them. When I revert to 10.6.8, the problems disappear. If there a fix of technique in LION to enable NTFS drives to mount?

Looks like there is no **ufsd.fs ** here on ntfs-3g. I think **ntfs-3g.fs** is there, but it is not mounting.😕

Removing the preference panes, I can have readonly access to my hard drive, but it can not have write access.

Any help would be appriciated. 🙂

The exact error that comes is this:-

NTFS-3G could not mount /dev/disk1s1

at /Volumes/Noga_Serials because the following problem occurred:

/Library/Filesystems/fusefs.fs/Support/fusefs.kext failed to load - (libkern/kext) link error; check the system/kernel logs for errors or try kextutil(8).

the MacFUSE file system is not available (71)

And that is because, there is no ***/Library/Filesystems/fusefs.fs/*** directory.

The volume is getting loaded for read and write now,

however - there is an error coming from NTFS-3G:-

NTFS-3G could not mount /dev/disk1s1

at /Volumes/Noga_Serials because the following problem occurred:

Did not receive a signal within 15.000000 seconds. Exiting...

I am assuming that is an issue with NTFS-3G and Lion, perhaps ?

Ok, this is how I solved this problem. Following Nic Pel's method:

1. I uninstalled every NTFS driver that I had on my Mac.

2. I restarted.

3. I deleted the file on this route: /System/Library/filesystems/ufsd.fs

(I did a backup of the file, just in case)

4. I reinstalled a NTFS driver, (I used Paragon NTFS for Mac v.9.0)

5. Restart again.

6. You're done. You should be able to mount your external NTFS drive.

Good luck!

😀

Hi mandy2010,

here are the things you *should* follow step by step.

  1. Assuming you have ntfs-3g installed, then,
  2. Go to System Preferences
  3. Find ntfs-3g and macfuse.
  4. Uninstall them
  5. Delete the prerences options of macfuse
  6. Now reboot the system.
  7. Install ntfs-3g from : http://www.tuxera.com/mac/tuxerantfs_2010.12-RC.dmg
  8. Install http://www.tuxera.com/mac/macfuse-core-10.5-2.1.9.dmg [VERY IMP STEP]
  9. Reboot the system.
  10. Now insert your USB NTFS hard drive, and it should get mounted for read/write access.

Please note that it would give a nagging warning

NTFS-3G could not mount /dev/disk...

at /Volumes/.... because the following problem occurred:

Did not receive a signal within 15.000000 seconds. Exiting...

And it is fine, the read write is proper. Do not worry. Feel free to bug me, in case anything needed.

I had the same problem with my three drives. I have a Free agent go flex drive, my book, and a seagate usb external drives. If you click here: http://blog.philippklaus.de/2011/04/fix-sshfs-with-macfuse-on-mac-os-x-10-6-7-sn ow-leopard/ you will find the MacFUSE program that you can download and install.

I installed the program, disconnecte my drives, reconnected them and they now work. You can also restart your computer and they all work. This is an easy fix.

Hi,

Thanks for your help. One more quick question: My Mac is now reading my external hardrive and I can save and edit my files. However, if I try to search for file it can not find anything. Is this because I have not purchased the full software (though when I was on leopard this was not a problem) or something with Lion?

Thanks in advance

Mandy
