xcode 4.1 installation alert stuck, like forever, on Lion

i had this too. here is my solution:

1. launch terminal.app

2. run: ps aux | grep iTunes

3. there should be a process running with name: iTunesHelper

4. find the process number (in the second column)

5. run: kill -9 "number" !!! take caution here

this is what fixed it for me.

This was exactly the problem. If you're like me and prefer not using Terminal you can find and quit this iTunesHelper process with Activity Monitor as well.

Hello, everyone. Thanks for your answer, I helped to install Xcode. I do not understand the iTunesHelper is enabled or disabled in system preferences, accounts or users. If I turn it off, and now becomes active. Anyway thanks foryour answer.

Thanks for the solution. I was suspecting it was iTunesHelper after launching Activity Monitor.

It's almost as if Apple is trying to say if you aren't smart enough to use grep or other utilities to find out what's happening, you shouldn't really be using Xcode. 😁

It used to be straight up 'on your own, sucker'...you either knew to quit Xcode, Simulator, Application Loader, iTunes etc. on your own, or the progress bar would just sit and sing until you figured it out. There are hundreds of threads still around from those days.........

Having an alert/kill switch is actually a recent improvement, but like all things dev related, it's never safe to sit on your hands.

Just follow your instruction to check wether is iTunes Helper ! but it show not relative App were executing ! but when i start to install Xcode 4.1 from this morning up to now (About nearly 6hours) but still unable to complete update ! where could it be the problem ? if any of you know the solution please tell me ! thank you so much!

In case killing iTunes Helper doesn't help either, the problem can be solved by killing the alert window directly.

The alert window's process name is alertAll.

Just make sure that you really do quit iTunes and any other program mentioned in the alert before proceeding.

Hello all

My Xcode crashes my Lion

I have updated my Snow Leopard with Lion the last 2 day

If i install Xcode, it' s freeze my imac, i reboot, i have the message restauration of lion

I try this 2 times

I try a fresh install of lion, and it's good for me now with Xcode

I go to my time capsule now ...

You can also just type this into terminal: killall iTunesHelper

Faster than finding the process and hoping you type the number correctly.
