Lion WiFi Connection Problem

Since installing Lion on both my IMac and MacBook Pro, the WiFi cycles (wifi icon on the menu bar) - looking for network - network on - looking for network. iMac with OS 10.6 doesn't have this problem so it's not the AirPort and there was no problem prior to installing Lion. The AirPort Utility log shows lots of connection activity but I don't know if that means anything. The network troubleshooter says theres no problem but it's causing big problems with connection speed and applications that need a constant connection are giving me network errors constantly. Please give me some advise....

I've found that this problem appears for me on a brand new iMac that had Lion installed when I purchased it (which I'm presuming was installed over Snow Leopard), and which I then updated to 10.7.1. (Tried resetting smc, pram, the lot. No "alternative" networks for me to delete.) But the problem does NOT occur AT ALL (using the same network and everything) on a MacBook Pro which had a clean install of Lion (erase and repartition) and which was then updated to 10.7.1. So the clean install seems to have made a difference, at least for me.

I agree with jamiana (above) - a clean install of Lion removes this problem, though I suspect that a subsequent "upgrade" to 10.7.1 may mess things up again.

I think Lion is super-sensitive to WiFi interference, and the 10.7.1 "update" just didn't work - made things worse for many.

Until Apple own up and/or work out how to fix it, the best solution I find for now is to continually stream some iTunes music station, or for less bandwidth, use Terminal to continually ping some place, like

ping yahoo.com

Same problem here - my old macbook is running 10.5.8 & has no problems with my wi-fi but my brand new imac with 10.7.1 can't stay connected for more than a few minutes.

I have actually connected the modem/router with an ethernet cable & have run a massive long line through the house to do this. It's just not good enough really.

I am hoping that the more ppl post the more likely it is that Apple will hear us & FIX THIS problem.

We shouldn't have to jump through hoops/ resetting PRAM/security settings etc ... I actually can't call Apple Care as I work & by the time I get home they have been closed for an hour due to time difference - and no weekend support. am I supposed to take a day off from work to talk to Apple?

Not good enough Apple.

Hi there,

Has anyone tried this.... i tried this about a week ago and internet has been flying :-)

Someone else posted this... I can't recall who?

I went into my router settings (Thomson Gateway) and changed the channel setting from automatic to manual. I selected channel 12 and the IMAC was fine, but then my MACBOOK AIR wasn,t so I went to another channel that suited both. (You should find the channel setting under home network / interfaces / then up to the left is configurations)

Go to ABOUT THIS MAC, system report, then click on wi-fi and you will have achoice of channels.

hope this helps..

cheers from downunder

I'm totally angry, frustrated, tired, bored, disgusted with the neglect of Apple. If I'm being rude, I apologize, but there are no arguments against facts. I see on the Internet a lot of people trying to find a solution to the problem of wifi.

But the questions are: What Apple is doing to solve the problem? Why it does not manifest itself?

For what I see, Apple is COOKing the problem.

Lupunus,

Way to excuse Apple and blame the guy for having an OS upgrade trash his machine.

If there is one thing I have learned in this industry, there is an endless supply of apologists. All your examples of things you learned are items that many would eviscerate Microsoft over. So, LOL to you.

Still trying to understand how changing the length of my wireless password ended my connection problems under Lion. Too bad the iPad, SL, and Windows machines, in the same house hold never had an issue.
