Safari Freezing Up (LION OSX)

After upgrading Lion OSX this morning, whenever I would go on Safari, it'd freeze on me unexpectedly. I've noticed whenever I have a lot of tabs open for different sites, it happens. Then my computer freezes. It's happened about, 3-6 times all together today. My way of trying to fix it was: Resetting Safari (checking all boxes), reset Cache, Clear history, restart safari / restart macbook pro, reset pram, and hold down the power button for 10 seconds. None of it helps, even ran Disk Utilitity, repair disk and permission etc. Still no use. Any other solutions guys? Anything would help. Everything else is running perfecto, just the safari situation.

Another thing, when i go to my menu above, Go > Home. I cannot see my library folder like before on SL. >_> Help?

I have a brand NEW = 21.5-inch, Mid 2011 iMac too... (My 1st MAC...) My Windows 7 machines are great but I was open to trying the iMac because I love my other Apple products.

It shipped with Snow Leopard and was AWESOME!!!! I went to the "App Store", bought and updated to - LION 10.7 (11A511) - and it CRASHES everyday!!!

*With MOST programs!!! I even tried switching browsers to Google Chrome - and it locks up too.

It just LOCKS UP - the Track Pad becomes unusable!! I grabbed the Majic Mouse - it connects but won't work either..... SYSTEM - has to be HARD RESET - everyday!! Apple.... (Please Let us know that you are fixing this!!)

Am having just two of the issues described here: Safari completely freezes the system when using Flash and occassionally iTunes freezes the system when trying to view a video. I haven't tried other web browsers so far though.

Now considering the resume feature of Lion it's not a heartbreaker to restart the system, but it's still very irritating and time-consuming. It's also certainly not good for the machine!

I think most of us can agree to the fact that these problems happen on the newest iMac! Someone has used an SSD, I have a regular rpm drive. So it probably won't be the harddrive who's at fault. Let's put together some useful information, like what programs actually crash the entire system (and the action required to do it) and some basic system information:

System configuration:

Latest iMac 2.5 Ghz i5

21.5-inch (1920 x 1080)

2x2GB RAM (Apple)

500GB Hard Drive

AMD Radeon HD 6750M 512 MB

Programs:

Safari (when viewing flash videos on various websites)

iTunes (when starting video playback)

Works again after a restart but crashes the system again after some time (usually when I wake up after the night).

There 🙂 Go ahead and post your report as well!

I wasn't using Flash when it froze although who would know what is going on behind the curtains? I was opening a new tab in an on-line paper. That's twice in the past week I've had to hit the power switch and both times after opening a new tab in Safari and only since Lion.

Well, if you've only had to restart twice and it was just an unwanted flash applet running in the background you could try installing clicktoflash. That way we will know for sure.

Unfortunately, even though I do have those plugins in place, I still need to use flash for certain things. But you're lucky, I have to restart about 2-5 times each day...

Running Lion 10.7

50% of the time when I play a video in browser, the computer freezes and I have to power it off. It happens in Safari, Chrome, and Firefox on over 10 different video players and web sites. Never had a problem when I was running Snow Leopard. It's obvious that Lion and Flash aren't playing nicely together. It really ***** when you click on an unknown link from Twitter, and up pops a video, and everything crashes!

No crashes in iTunes or VLC. It's always just playing a video in broswer that triggers it.

Glad this issue is not just happening to me. Brand new MBA- top of the line specs and Safari totally freezes at least 3 times a day. Have to manually shut down the whole computer to fix it. Not acceptable at all when I just spent over $1500 on a computer. Very annoyed. Have never had issues like this with any of my other 4 macs. It is definitely the software.

Having the same issue with my mid-2010 15" MBP. Safari has caused my computer to freeze up twice in the past hour. I'm typically a strong endorser of Mac products, but Lion is giving me so many headaches that I'm wanting to go back to a PC. A fix better be on its way very soon or else Apple will have some seriously upset customers.

All, I have a 2011 27" iMac. After upgrading to Lion, I have been having the same problems (mostly with playing video in iTunes, although it crashed once with Safari). What typically happens with iTunes is that a movie will start playing, there is sound, but the screen is black. The mouse icon can move, but it will not do anything. Have to do a hard restart.

I've been on the phone with Apple Support for a week, and it has been with Apple doing hardware stress tests (it actually had a kernel panic when it was at Apple). They confirmed that they hardware is fine, and it's definitely a Lion issue. I was told the engineers know about the issue and are supposedly creating a fix.

So much for paying a premium for an "uncrashable" computer! Macs aren't supposed to crash, Apple!
