Cannot connect via Server app

Decided to install the Lion Server on this iMac 27" quad-core i7 with 8GB RAM. Downloaded it from the MAS, Read the Getting Started documentation, then opened the Server app. Selected "this mac" and entered my admin name and password. Server app refused them.

Is there a special admin name and password that I should be using? Where would I find them?

Or is there some other issue that is preventing me from connecting? I can't find anything in the documentation.

Thanks!

I had this exact same issue. After using the Server App successfully for a week, today it decided to not let me in. I even tried creating a brand new account with admin privledges. No luck. The I found this thread and it worked.

But I though OSX Server was supposed to be easy for us common folk? To me, having to search Google for some fix, then enter some line of code into Terminal isn't very user friendly. Just glad it worked. Hopefully Apple comes up with a real fix soon.

As you can see from my first reply i had this issue quite early on. i.e. pretty much the next day!

As there was no response at the time and I needed a quick fix, I decided on a complete re-fromat of the server.

Now, second time around, the same thing has happened. Server Admin will not recognise any admin accounts and theoretilacly bars me from logging in to the app. (also a side note - as this was happening Server Admin could also not connect to the server.)

Anyways. I tried the terminal command and all was good. I could now log in to the server app and was on my way.

When.............. I went to one of my 20 Client iMacs that had all been bound to the server and functioning perfectly. They found that they couldnt find any user accounts on the server. They just hanged on the log in screen with the little spinny thing.

Before the server app played up everything was fine and the clients found user accounts no problem. The iMac found the mobile account, created it locally, then logged in with all preferences etc. fine.

Now nothing. Is this a system wide bug?

Now i am left seriously considering re-formatting back to Snow Leopard. But i sooo want Lion to work! lol

Any thoughts?

HI Dill! thanks your suggestion of:

sudo launchctl load -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.servermgrd.plist

worked like a charm!

Symptoms: restarted osx i7 mac mini with 10.7. lion server on it and could not connect to "server.app".. kept refusing the admiiistrator / password.

tried: removing keychain entry - this had no affects.

Resolution: saw this suggetion on this forum from Dill Waters "sudo launchctl load -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.servermgrd.plist".

thanks heaps!.

Thank you soooooooooo much! I am still relatively new to Macs, and this new mac mini with Lion server has been amazing. I am looking forward to learning more about it as time goes on. It had been working just fine, I had not been using any of the server stuff ... still just enjoying the Lion OS. But every now and then I would turn the server app on and just browse. Then one day it just asked for my user id and password and acted as though it had forgotten... I felt like my pristine beautiful machine was broke and no one could help. The descriptions I read in this thread came the closest to my issue.

You are truly a hero...

Warmest Regards,

Cindy
