"Pinch to zoom" not working in the Finder

Hello everyone,

I just installed Lion on my Macbook Air 13 inches, and I cannot "pinch to zoom" anymore in the Finder or on the desktop. (but it works fine in Aperture for example)

Anyone has this problem ? I checked the options, but could not find anything.

Thank you for your help !

I received a mail from someone who said that he worked with a team of Apple Care Advisors.

He wants to contact me about a discussion in which I participate.

Sorry to disappoint you, but someone from Applecare in Calif. did phone me.

Of course not to consult me, for who am I, but just to get some info from me about the trackpad/gestures problem.

He was asked by Apple to do so. They were interested in my log of the trackpad.

And all this was because there were a lot of people who were having problems with it and were working on a software solution.

Anyhow it all came over very genuine. And it looks like Apple is watching the posts in the support forum too.

I agree 100%... this feature was one of the best, and one that seperated Apple GUI from the others...

If you have thousands of images on your mac... and lets face it thats what they have encouraged for years now... this was invaluable for doing quick visual search for things...

I have to deal with folders and folders of images at times... and this made it sooo much easier...

Not everybody blindly imports there images as duplicates into iphoto... as the mac gets more and more popular they seem to dumb down in some areas...

Very disapointed in this step backwards...

I understand some people don't like this functionality...

If some have trouble with this incredible functionality... make it a trackpad option...surely not that hard with all your billions of dollars .....

Please restore this functionality...

If I remember right... Snow leopard had a slider at the botom of the finder window as well... The "view options and use the slider" is now option...

Please listen to us and give us a decent response in this forum....

I went and tested this to quite an end. First you should determine if your trackpad is actually working.

My steps were as follows to confirm:

1) Go to System Preferences --> Trackpad --> Scroll and Zoom

2) Confirm that Zoom in or out has a check mark.

3) Test another gesture such as scrolling.

4) Now open a JPG or PNG in Preview. Try the pinch and zoom.

4A) If it works, QUIT the application where it is not working and retry.

4B) If it doesnt work, then restart your machine

5) At RESTART, ZAP your PRAM! Command + Option + P + R

6) Open System Preferences --> Trackpad --> Scroll and Zoom

7) Uncheck your Zoom Preference

8) Click Show All or Close System Preferences so the TrackPad preference gets a fresh write with the setting unchecked

9) Go back to System Preferences --> Trackpad --> Scroll and Zoom

10) Check the Zoom feature

11) Test again.

In MY case I was done at step 4A. I was able to quit safari and mail and upon reopening the application I was back in business.

Hope this helps you all.

I too was hugely bothered by many aspects of Lion (mostly the multi-touch gesture changes that I could not revert back to like swiping 4 fingers up to see the desktop and four fingers down to get a view of all open windows) but mostly PINCH TO ZOOM IN FINDER. i think they wanted to get rid of this to promote more use of iphoto (which is SO apple) but I couldn't take it anymore and restored Snow Leopard figuring it would have to be re-instated in a later Lion update, but still hasn't. I'm shocked that it hasn't and now with the impending iCloud implementation it looks like if we want full functionality, I have to switch back to Lion.

Oh well pinch to zoom in finder, RIP with Steve....I loved you both equally. (not really, I loved Steve much much more)
