"Pinch to zoom" not working in the Finder

Hello everyone,

I just installed Lion on my Macbook Air 13 inches, and I cannot "pinch to zoom" anymore in the Finder or on the desktop. (but it works fine in Aperture for example)

Anyone has this problem ? I checked the options, but could not find anything.

Thank you for your help !

MacBook Air, Mac OS X (10.7)

Pinch to zoom only works for certain applications in Mac but not Finder. This is an expected behavior

of course there's a whole bunch of list.

apple.com/feedback would be the proper channel to voice out this enhancement request

Well, they mentioned where they would add gestures, but they never mentioned that they would actually remove some.

I wrote to the support, and I suggest everyone to do so, the more we are, the more chances we'll have to get that feature back.

And nothing is "expected behavior", an operating system should offer as many options as possible to its users. Then, we decide what to activate or not.

What's the point of having a gesture trackpad if you have to right clic and enter a menu to do something as simple as resizing thumbnails ???

I am sure that you didn't mean it as such, but your post seems awfully dismissive of a valid complaint - phrases like "this is an expected behaviour" are bound to get people's emotions up, because clearly to some of us, this was not an expected behaviour. The pinch gesture worked in the Finder in Snow Leopard, and so it wasn't unreasonable to assume it would work similarly in Lion. I realise you're probably just using "expected behaviour" in the generic sense of the term, but I've always felt that phrase to be a bit of a programmer cop-out, designed to make the user shut up and feel unreasonable for wanting something to work differently. The alternative of "we programmed it that way" puts the responsibility back on the programmers in a way they would probably prefer to avoid!

www.apple.com/feedback sir 🙂

I'm not here to argue. As far as I see, we all share the same experience and sentiment but if you wish to get heard, then that above link is right channel

just my 2cents, we are entitled of our opinion and I respect yours. If there's a loss of feature then we all have to understand that this is a brand new OS, not an upgrade like Snow leopard is to Leopard. There is a lot of new look and feel, the pinch to zoom on certain apps is indeed HELPFUL. Nobody said it isn't. What I said its an expected behaviour because whatever angle you look at it, there is no setting you change to put it back then doesn't mean its working as expected?maybe not how you expected but on a developer point of view it is.

Ultimately, even if this thread goes 10 page, if its an enhance request or lost of feature. There are proper channels to point it out.

please everyone provide feedback here

http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html

This was an option way back in 10.5 It use to be in the advanced tab of Finder preferences. You could turn it off and on. Then it became on always at somepoint, definately whebn 10.6 came out it was the default to pinch to zoom the Finder. Not sure under 10.6 if it could be turned off. Anyway. Apple please bring back the ability to turn this on or off in Finder Preferences.

I already filled the feedback form. This feature is a must for me.

For a temp fix until they actually fix this, if you open a Finder window and click on View, and then "Show Status Bar", you'll get a slider bar to increase / decrease icon size. I know it's not what we want, but at least its a way to zoom in and out somewhat fast.

Hope this helps some of you for a while.
