Apple Mail removed bounce functionality?

I upgraded to Lion, and I cannot find the "bounce" functionality in Apple's Main application. I regularly use this to reduce future occurences of SPAM. Is it possible it has removed from the application?

YAY, I got BOUNCE back! Thank you so much Terry.

To be clear (for mulligans missus's benefit), this feature was removed, not made redundant. I wish people would use dictionaries before using big words like that. It was made obsolete, not redundant.

There ARE legitimate uses for Bounce To Sender. For example if you enter an email address wrong, and it doesn't exist, it gets bounced back to you to indicate that it was undeliverable. That's legit. I frequently get email targeted for someone else. In this case the mistyped email does exist, but it still isn't right. I can politely reply to the sender that they got the wrong guy, but they do not understand, and they keep doing it. In that case a bounced email sends a more powerful message than a polite and easily forgotton reply. A bounced email is a clear indication that it didn't reach the correct recipient. It doesn't happen frequently enough to add to the spam problem.

Even if all Mac Mail users (5% of all computer users?) sat at their computers ALL DAY and bounced back all their spam (and who does that, really?), the number of bounced emails would be a small nano-fraction of all the spam in the system. Still, Mail users should be aware that real spam should not be bounced, because the real senders address isn't used.

Apple, Bounce to Sender was a great feature of Mac Mail, and it should be put back.

redundant|riˈdəndənt|adjectiveno longer needed or useful; superfluous

It does not exist in Lion. It was no longer needed nor useful in Apple OSs. That is why it is not part of Lion. Sure, hacks will pop up everywhere over time and if you wish to trust your system to third party hacks, then do so. Hacks for bounce, hacks for sidebar colours, scroll bar arrows and other cosmetics that only a tiny amount of users can't seem to do without. Most know better. And if your system stuffs up fom installing a hack, where do you go? Right back here and blame Lion. lol

Good Luck

superfluous unnecessary, esp. through being more than enough

No longer needed nor useful for who I wonder? IMHO, your definition of redundant doesn't describe this feature.

Redundant is used when there are other systems in place to do the same thing. The space shuttle contains multiple redundant systems to provide fail-over protection.

Was this Steve's dying wish - that Bounce be removed? He also removed floppy drives, and SCSI, and even ethernet on PPC machines, forcing people who didn't find those things "redundant" to buy adapters and add-ons. I just bought my mom an Apple made optical drive because her new Mini didn't have one. Are optical drive redundant? Who gets to declare what is redundant?

Nope. Wasn't a cheap shot. Steve was a forward thinker, and often discontinued stuff before the end of its natural life cycle. The balls to do that is part of what made him great. However my point was that taking out a feature, or discontinuing hardware doesn't mean that it's obsolete. It just means that most people don't use it, or need it, or are willing to pay to do things the new Steve way. I've been a Mac only household since 1994, so I've been through countless changes with Apple, and I'll tell you, it's expensive to keep up. And Steve was often premature in his judgements - like with the whole ethernet thing. Bounce-to-Sender is a minor thing, but it is something I still use, so I wanted it back. Your "love it or leave it", "tough-sh*t-Sherlock" attitude is sad and not helpful. You could learn to be more understanding of the countless variety of people in this world, and actually be a helpful person.
