Apple Mail removed bounce functionality?

I upgraded to Lion, and I cannot find the "bounce" functionality in Apple's Main application. I regularly use this to reduce future occurences of SPAM. Is it possible it has removed from the application?

That's easy to explain, many people posting here detest spammers, myself I consider them worse than 'pink slime' in hamburgers. By using bounce you become a spammer, hence the attitude. 🙂

See thats what I don't understand... Bounce = spam. That makes no sense to me. If that's the case, then email server software is written to create spam!

Have you been following the conversation Csound1? I don't bounce spam. I know that's pointless and adds to the server load. I work in IT. I'm not spamming anyone. But I don't think anybody hears me. The hostile attitude here makes me very concerned for the Mac community at large.

I still cannot see any need for Bounce. As repeated regularly, most are not being returned to the host. The host has long gone. Third parties most often cop the lot. IP filtering of a certain address is handy, as is marking as junk. Delete the lot at once each day or each week. You are not announcing your address as alive then. For the couple who think they can legitimately and responsibly bounce spam, then you actually may use it correctly. Most didn't, hence it was dropped. Those screaming for it back are probably in the same boat as those wanting Spaces back. The features were dropped for a reason by the company who make the OSX. In this case Apple and........yawn.........sorry it's hard to keep trying to explain. Anyway bounce has gone as a tiny feature of one program in a complex computing system.

Well, I would take that bet, because I know my accuracy rate is 100%. I've saying all along that I don't bounce spam. That would be pointless. I bounce email from well meaning folks that think my email address is for someone they know... And only after warning them that I will do so if they don't remove me from their team mailing list. I know it's not spam so I actually communicate with them before resorting to the bounce option. Once your email address is part of a community round robin mailing list it's incredibly hard to get it removed, or to convince that group of people that the person they're trying to email has one more letter at the end of their address.

While I agree with Apple removing that feature from mail, I feel it's a useful tool for my mistaken identity emails.

You should be able to create an Automator workflow to Bounce email:

1. Open Automator

2. From the Menu Bar choose File, choose New

3. In the active window choose Services

4. Your workflow will be as follows:

a. service receives No Input in Mail.app

b. Actions will be Mail > get selected mail messages (drag to the working window if you aren't familiar with Automator)

c. Actions will be Utilities > Run AppleScript (again just drag to the working window)

d. Copy and paste the following as the text for your AppleScript

on run {input, parameters}

tell application "Mail"

repeat with eachMessage in input

bounceeachMessage

deleteeachMessage

end repeat

end tell

end run

Now open Mail and when you find a mail to Bounce simply go the the Menu Barselect Mail then choose Services at which point you should see an option to Bouncethe email.
