Wake From Display Sleep With Trackpad Broken

Prior to OS X 10.7, after the system entered display sleep, but not sleep, you could wipe the trackpad to wake the display. In OS X 10.7, that doesn't work anymore when running on battery.

It looks definitely like a bug to me, I have narrowed the issue down as follows:

- It only affects "display sleep" which is usually set to a much shorter period than system sleep

- It only happens when running on battery

Intentional or bug? Is it just me?

Described as above it seems minor, but this is what I do about 10 times per day when I am sitting in various locations using my MacBook Pro. Display sleep is set aggressively low to save battery when I am not using the machine... I have it at 3 Minutes. Swiping the trackpad is an almost thoughtless quick way to wake the display again...

It gets even worse if you use Wake on LAN to remotely access your Mac. Some applications (personally, I tested Rowmote, Plex, EyeTV and TeamViewer) refuse to work properly because the screen keeps sleeping. The only solution to get remote access working like it did with Snow Leopard is to turn energy saving completely off.

This can't be "behaves as intended", someone wasn't simply thinking far enough. Bug report is filed.

I have reported this issue in the OSx feedback form as well.

Its a huge annoyance, not just because of the trackpad, but also for the volume and music controls as well! I have to press pause twice in order to get it to pause. I can now no longer adjust the volume or play/pause with my apple remote, either. I have to go across the room and manually wake it up. Pretty much makes the remote useles.... sigh :-\

Hi all,

I recently noticed that after disabling "Automatic graphics switching" in the power saving settings, waking from display sleep with a one-finger swipe does work as expected (both plugged-in and on battery).

I had to disable "Automatic graphics switching" due to issues with Adobe Air (un)installer (that cannot handle it), and Tweetdeck (a version build on Adobe Air).

Hope this works for others too. But it can't be "intended".
