Unable to search network drives with Lion...
After installing Lion, I have found I am unable to search network drives (Windows network) like I used with Snow Leopard. Any suggestions?

Hi all,
I wanted to share you the solution that worked for me.
I was always connecting to my Synology NAS through finder - connect to server - "smb:// ip address"
Instead i connect to "afp:// ip address" and searching works perfectly
I also turned indexing on with the terminal command, but this didn't change anything when connecting to smb://..
Apparently smb is a windows protocol and afp is better for mac
I just installed Sierra upon reading your post and I can confirm this. Still not as fast as the app FileBrowser on my iPad but a *substantial* improvement. Most importantly, the spinning beach ball doesn't appear anymore when I open a folder on my NAS. Good times.

Maybe we will find the solution in the next OSX 10.8 code name DONKEY! 😁
Actually it is called Mountain Lion... I doubt it'll fix it.
Cheers
There seem to be some people, who can Finder-search Win7 SMB network shares...:

Strange world... ;-)
I was able to solve this problem in Mavericks by following this post: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2409.
Unfortunately I'm also having the same problem. The network drives appear in the finder but no search results. Does anyone have any ideas on why this may be happening?
Seeing the same problem. Some searches bring up a few files living in one specific subdirectory of the share, but otherwise search is useless on SMB shares.
Having the same symptoms as WW1 Ace, I can't resolve this issue. Didn't get a chance to speak to Apple support but will do so today and post outcomes.
Mac os x never got a good support for NTFS maybe they will finally get it right.
Only If there is a will :-)
Great, nice one Tom. Hopefully we'll see a fix shortly.
I am also having the same issue with my NAS. At first I wasn't even able to access it but that is a whole different story.
Are you able to even access that network drive? .. If not, I found a fix.
What is your fix. We are having the same problem. Not being able to search a SMB drive. We can access it just fine, but no search function.
I think you misread my reply... I was referring to a fix for accessing the network drive, not searching it.
