How is this still a problem after all these months? I have a three week old Macbook Air. It crashed, then refused to reboot last weekend. As I was traveling, I was stuck. Fortunately the guys in the Apple Store in Birmingham were great and although I wasted time (and missed a football match that I was supposed to be taking photos at) they rebuilt the OS and got it working. But the preview crashing remains. I've done the updates but it persists. If I delete an image, then go back to view a previous photo, it crashes every time eg,
view image 1,
delete image 2,
view image 3,
then try to return to image 1
preview attempts to open image 2 and crashes.
Today I did some quick cropping of a few images and Preview crashed while attempting to save the images. I was using an external hard drive which I couldn't eject and eventually I had to crash the machine, then re-boot.
I appreciate that the answer may well be in this thread and I'll have a try at resolving the issue this weekend but I'm really unhappy that I need to do this on a Mac, especially as this is a long time problem and I spent the last few years telling people how much better Macs are than PC's "because they just work". I've already had that thrown back at me by people who know that the reason I wasn't taking photos at a football match on Tuesday is because my Mac just 'doesn't work'. Oh, and I missed the deadline for submitting images from last Saturday's game too.
Hopefully I'll spend a morning following the instructions above and resolve this, so thank you in advance for your help, but I needed to let off a bit of steam. Come on Apple, sort these problems out before I begin to rank Lion slightly lower than Vista!
PS If anyone has a contact at Apple that I could send my rant to directly, please let me know it!
