AFP - LaCie Network Space 2 - Not Working on OSX Lion 10.7

Hi,

This morning I upgraded to OS X LION 10.7.

after the upgrade my Lacie Network Space (NAS) isn't working anymore over the AFP protocol.

this is the error I got :

User uploaded file

ps: the xxxx should be an ip address but I photoshoped it, cause i don't like private information to be leaked.

Anyone who has the same problem. I contacted LaCie support line, they say it's a known problem at every NAS manufacturer and it's apple to do an update for this issue.

Hi,

My solution as described above doesn't help the time machine problem.

it only solves the FILE SERVER part of your NAS trought AFP.

it also works with the SMB as I told.

but apple needs their PROPER afp protocol to activate time machine to your NAS.

LACIE just announced they are in progress creating a update which will be pushed to all NAS systems asap.

I hoped initially that your solution would fix the AFP issue on my Lacie NetworkSpace2 (which cannot be used anymore with Time Machine), I confirm it doesn't.

FYI, I have upgraded earlier today the NAS firmware to version 1.2.93 and I was able to connect to the NAS (Finder: Go to/Connect to server... afp://192.168.x.x) before running your recommended commands in terminal mode, meaning that the latest NAS firmware 1.2.93 may have been solved the AFP issue at least for the file server part. Something I cannot remember is if I was able to connect to the NAS in the Finder prior to upgrading the firrmware.

I have created a support ticket on Lacie support website and will let the community know any follow up on this (having in mind Lacie support is usually quite slow to answer requests...).

Cheers,

Lacie updates now rolling out to all nas disks. Afp & time machine is working again

@jush why are you repeating solutions already proposed in this conversation

& by the way time machine does nit support smb. Afp only, this code has changed in lion and is fixed due to an update by lacie. Please provide helpful questions or answers thank you !!

Hi Marcel,

I'm afraid that for many of us the issue is not solved at all. The last firmware update 1.2.93 doesn't fix the issue as reported by Time Machine: "required AFP features are missing" (translated from the French error message).

I would be grateful if you could confirm what you said on July 24th: "Lacie updates now rolling out to all nas disks. Afp & time machine is working again".

I'm in contact with Lacie support centre which is still struggling with this issue and doesn't seem to have a new firmware under testing for an immediate release.

Thanks,

Thiebaud

From everything that I have seen - the answer is - the 1.2.93 firmware is required for user authentication access to any portions of the drive which are password protected for individual users - and that 1.2.94 will be required for Time Machine functionality on the user shares to be restored.

I have not tried it - but you might be able to use the OpenShare with guest access for TIme Machine - but that is not a good solution.

The only "work arounds" at the moment are to wait for the 1.2.94 firmware - or use some other device for TM backup.
