The verical scoll bar arrows are no longer there on OS X 10.7.

Good ideas, I believe they are working on it! It is good some people are unaffected by their absence, but too silly to eliminate them due to their usefulness. Until then I will keep checking on other ideas, hopefully without having to weed through bitter, uninformed responses haha

So you can explain how and more importantly IF they can actually be built into the core OSX architecture of 10.7 and 10.8? You know that this is a possible option? Great, please share.🙂

Thanks

Thanks, actually embarrassed. I'm just a fan of Apple OS abilities, however frustrated by loss of navigation tools. My only "humble" point is that developers could easily include arrow buttons as easily as they include toolbars themselves. Congratulations for your abilities to maneuver without them, but I wish ppl were not offended that some users have a genuine concern for the absence of arrow buttons. This is still a Very Important topic of discussion, IMHO! 🙂

P.S. I do really enjoy two finger gestures, just asking for multiple forms of navigation that are now absent.

Please stop feeding the troll. He is going to get the last word. He has to. He thinks thats what the big boys do. And yes, they can be included. I don't need access to propiratary info to know that they didn't reienvent the wheel. It's still in the unix underpinnings. There are unix guis that have it. The window sizes and shapes are different, so they may need to work on making them asthetic, but the arrow functions are still down there somewhere. Furthermore, it WAS there, now it's not. It's not that it wasn't 'not possible' - it was removed! Deliberatly. Probably at the behest of the sales department who want to make it easy to transition to iPads. I'm sure, if they could, the would have made the iPad run like a computer, but there are almost certainly technical limitations on that... so instead of elevating the iPad, they LOWERED the laptop!

Apple has made a similar error to what Microsoft did with Windows 8. On Windows 8, I don't want touchscreen interface on my desktop computer. Doesn't work now and probably never will. I should be allowed to discover it as an option, not have it forced on me. Similar to the removal of scroll arrows and thinning the scrollbars on Mac. A desktop Mac is not iOS and never will be. In trying to force this interface on users, Apple has stripped out essential functionality. Remember Apple, there are some Mac users that are more than hipster media consumers.

Here is an idea, either provide facts, factual links or something more solid than what you have tried to use to sound somewhat intelligent!!

OR

Become an Apple Developer and report these things to Apple. You can obviously see just how many care here about it. 3? 4? I do (and will continue to) respond to this public forum for as long as Trolls like yourself keep using another persons 'SOLVED' thread to get their own inabilities to use a new OSX (new?? well over two years old) to try to rise this thread to the top, day in, day out, without using the proper channels.

Sure, if there hundreds (maybe even a few dozen) here complaining then it may make some sense. 😉

Cheers

Maybe suggest to Apple a discussion rules change to disallow contributions to a "solved" question, so as not to offend your sensibilities, your eyes having to see a valid thread "rise to the top", day after day, driving you crazy, even though I and others are continuing to benefit from discussion on this topic, scroll bar arrow buttons. cheers

P.S. Over X000 users have submitted requests directly, perhaps only 10 or 11 still like to search for answers here as well, despite silly off-topic responses from certain users who claim to be satisfied that arrows are no longer included! Ha. This thread may continue as long as someone has something to add to "Scroll Bar arrows Gone?", maybe long after, one never knows Cheers again. And cheers.

😕

Well that certainly clears everything up. 😁

Well, last date on this thread is July 25th, and my scroll arrows still haven't been put back.

I am a scientist, and do over 90% of my scientific work through the Terminal (compiling, looking at text output and diagnostics, and so on). I do not have the option of using the arrow keys to get a single-line scroll because the arrow keys access the command line history. Now that the scroll arrows are gone, it seriously hampers my ability to get work done. Seriously. I had no idea how much I relied on those arrows until my work computer was "upgraded" last week from 10.6 to 10.8.

I submitted a comment to Apple using the link that's been posted numerous times in this thread. But the thread itself still shouldn't die.

Apple, why did you take away my scroll keys? Why, oh why, did you make the deliberate choice to REMOVE an interface option? If you don't want the masses using scroll arrows, fine, but at least give me the option to put them back in!

Seriously, Apple, this move just doesn't make any sense. The rationale of trying to make MacOSX more like iOS is just way too weak. You broke a fundamental interface. Deliberately. Why would you do that?

Languishing at work

Interface is diminished

Apple broke the scroll

Hi Kareem,

I feel your pain. I'm a composer who uses Finale and despite having the cutely named "Magic Trackpad" it still has much less accuracy than the scroll arrows. One thing you should realize is that Apple is targeting itself only to media "consumers." So I'd advise you to give up your work as a scientist and stay home watching cat videos all day. Either that or switch to Windows. I did.

I'm with you on this, Kareem. I like Apple too. It works better for me except for that confounded loss of scroll bar arrows. What a small and yet vital solution could render us happy! I keep hoping that the next OX update will bring them back. Let's keep voicing our chagrin, aggrevation, and pain. And hope for a change for the better.

Bring back the scroll bar arrows! Please!
