The first thing I did was go buy the apple mouse with a little wheel that goes in all directions. I worked very nicely at first but quickly wore out so it worked sometimes but not always. It felt like small rubber ball and i suspect it got easily worn. It was also too large for my hand. Overall not a good choice.

I'm using a Kensington pocket mouse that works very well after at least 10 years but the wheel is not smooth, It's as if it is rolling over ridges. And the software hasn't been upgraded.

I might upgrade but the trackballs don't look as quick to use. The large ball requires more movement from button to ball. The slimblade gets good reviews but it looks like an iPhone. After the bad experience with the flat apple mouse being too large, I'm not excited about trying it.

i could upgrade to a similar Kensigton mouse -- it's not like its a huge expenditure.

This is what I mean by the trolls helping. Everyting something like that is posted, it pulls a lot of otherwise silent people how hate it out of the woodwork. You really are a great help. As the thread gets longer, and other threads of similar vein grow, and the complaints pepper other boards, the odds improve of Apple fixing it. It could be tought though. Apple is foolishly obstinant on somethings (I direct your attention to the single button mouse) but that one is easily remidied by taking your mouse business elsewhere. But since this is wired into the system, you can't do that that. They have to change it. They don't nessessarily have to bring the arrows back, but they have to accept that their current GUI is woefully unasseptable. I'm not married to arrows so much as the arrows were better (MUCH better) than the trackpad.

Again, in your opinion. Why are we not hearing from the millions upon millions of other Apple users? Oh, that's right. They are adaptable to change. Tell Apple. But if they are not back in Mavericks (which they are not in the beta) then you are talking to yourself and a couple of others here. But if you believe this two and a half year old thread will magically bring them back, then good luck to you.

petermac87, can you please do me a favor?

These are words you may want to think about.

Thank you.

I think that is true -- that trolls revive the subject and bring new attention to it -- but after the first messge, ignore them. Don't respond and they go elsewhere.

Stick to the topic so we can all figure out how to find solutions. Eventually an Apple underling will figure out a hack or a way to get Apple to fix it themselves. We should at least have the option to retain the arrows.

Lukas,

Peter (how appropriate) dosen't need to to stay away from this thread. As I said earlier, I actively ENCOURAGE him to be here. The specific contents matter less than the shear number of posts here. 13 pages so far, soon to be fourteen. Every post helps. When the marketers look at the name of the "Scroll Arrows Gone?" and see thirteen pages, they aren't going though and counting how many come from one troll. They are saying 13 pages of hate on our lack of arrows!! Every single post helps. Say 15 posts a page times 13 pages, times a thousand (or more, that figure is average for a single city in a differerent industry. Probabaly more like 100,000 but I'll stick to the 1000 because I KNOW that's the absolute rock bottom minimum) is nearly 20 thousand $30 Mavericks upgrads that are potentially lost. Nothing to sneer and and don't think they don't notice the potential loss of $100,000 in revenue. I know the marketing game. They are balanceing their sales against the arrogance of their managment. Who knows how it will go.

Also, don't get hung up on the arrows. The arrows just worked. Their current simply doesn't. If they come up with somthing completely new that actually works, it will be just as good as the arrows. They are trying to move people to the "iPad" paradigm - thus the tackpads. Unfortunatly, artists love tackpads, but people who work for a living don't. They are test marketing: can we degrade the working condtions of the mac and still have it sell big? That is the ONLY question. They are asking the market (us) and we are answering. But we need to answer with our dollars.
