Wait, maybe you're right. Maybe Apple is out of the OS business!!!

No, but none of us know what their next OS will be, what it will be called or what will be included. So you can follow the Terms of Use you agreed to when first coming here and stop speculating.

Oh, right. Zero speculation allowed. I'm only here to find see if anyone has a found a solution to the problem of missing scroll bar arrows. Eleven may not, in fact, come after ten.

No, as Mavericks came after a long series of Big Cat names. So far your speculating appears to have had some of your posts edited or removed. And no, there is no solution to the missing scroll bar arrows except using Snow Leopard or earlier. It has been mentioned here once or twice, I think.
No, not yet. Good luck with that, though. Thanks for the link to Apple.

You are most welcome. Glad to be of assistance. Here it is again in case you cannot find it.

An excellent summary of the problem. I like the description of "devices that have very little in common". The "too big to fail" syndrom is catching up with Apple. Excellent article in a recent New Yorker about why small companies can produce ground-breaking products and large companies can't. Large companies build in accepted practices, internal or external, and don't question them. Providing "new, improved" features is one of the accepted practices that I can really do without. Unless it's more storage, faster speed, more reliability, it limits productivity.
Much of what is being done is like a spring fashon show. Like removing the arrows because they aren't -- aren't what? Why do something so destructive? Why were they bothering anyone? Why not just give users a choice?
First of all, 23 pages 🙂
Secondly "Am I the only one who...."
Yeah, I think looking at this ever growing thread, you are the only one who is wrong. Congrats.
Thirdly, I have a fear that what we are seeing is Apples surrender to Microsoft. iPhone is where most of the companies profit comes from, and other devices are second. Comptuers themsleves are lagging bad. Apple never was much competition for Microsoft, and I fear they have realized their future is little devices. I don't know how wise that is, Android is clearly better than iOS, but they may just be getting out of compter business. You may be fighting for the end of the product like you claim to love. Kinda dumb.
While Apple is happy to let loyal users suffer with arbitrary user interface decisions that have impacted work flow + productivity, other major players take user feedback seriously.
Have a look at this article from the 20 Feb 2014 issue of Computerworld: http://www.computerworld.com.au/article/538771/google_reverses_field_promises_re store_chrome_scrollbar_arrows/?utm_medium=newsletter&eid=-255&utm_source=compute rworld-today
Google reverses field, promises to restore Chrome's scrollbar arrows
Squawking pays off; Chrome 34 on Windows will return navigational aids to browser
"Google has backtracked from changes that made Chrome's scroll non-standard, a move that infuriated some users a month ago when the Mountain View, Calif. company rolled out Chrome 32.
Windows users had stormed onto the company's support forum to complain about the changes, which they said made the browser's vertical scrollbar unusable.
Their grievances condensed around two issues: First, Chrome's scrollbars were significantly thinner, and second, Google dumped the scroll arrows, also called "steppers," within the scrollbar. Those changes, griped users, were not only contrary to accepted practice in Windows software, but made navigating long Web pages difficult, sometimes impossible." (read more on the Computerworld website...)
If Google can backtrack on an unpopular UI change (removal of scrollbar arrows) - based on user forum feedback - why won't Apple do the same?
Apple: It's time to listen to your user community!
PS - I've sent these same comments to Apple via their Feedback page.
Yes, Google reimplemented them after one month. Apple's have been gone for three years. Chrome is a browser. Apple make Operating Systems, the last three without the arrows. But keep sending them feedback. Who knows?
Good Luck
Pete
Fascinating. Come on Apple, get with the program!
I too miss the scroll bar arrows. I suffer from lupus and arthritis and as a result have contractures of my hands/fingers. I used these arrows extensively while navigating documents and web pages. It's difficult to move my hands in the motions apple wants to use the track pad or mouse without significant pain. It's not just about asthetics or streamlining for some of us, some people like me liked the ability to hover over these arrows, we just needed to depress a button on a track pad or mouse while resting our hands.
Thank you. Great help. Arrows, I can deal without. But the scroll bar is sacred.

Scroll bars are still there. System Preferences > General > Show Scroll Bars and select Always.
Pete
It's all sacred. Arrows are the fine control for all mouse devices. The removal of them was a rather cynical sales technique to force us to use the clearly inferior technology of the 'magic trackpad.' It's sloppy, it's inexact. It's unacceptable. Apple will always be in the cheap seats until they either bring the arrows back, or provide some kind of fine control for people who work for a living. 'Good enough' is not good enough when your competitors have better, and right now, they do.
