Scroll Bar arrows Gone?
The verical scoll bar arrows are no longer there on OS X 10.7.
Any way in System prefs or Safari prefs to get them back?
Imac 20, Mac OS X (10.6.6), 10.7 installed

Ah, there are good points in here. It will probably just be deleted.
Yes, hopefully.

No surprises here. This is a positive sounding article, but it really isn't for apple.
This is the salient quote: "Compared to those stratospheric sales volumes, the Mac division appears downright anemic, selling a total of only 16.3 million units in the company’s 2013 fiscal year, the last full year to be reported. Macs similarly represent only a tiny percentage of the global PC market, with less than 6 percent of the 300 million PCs sold last year having an Apple logo on them."
Sales for 'ultramobiles' are going great, but in desktop models, macs fail to compete. Why? The question is backward. The desktops are the backbone of industry work, and they are selling poorly compared to PC's. Desktops, both Mac and PC are 'old technology.' When you buy that, you are looking to get work done, not fun and games. There are no standout hardware features on desktop (at least none that aren't pure gimmick) so it's the software and OS that drives the sale and the market has spoken: for all it's well known flaws, Microsoft based units are the way to go to get work done.
Apple is making good money because they are innovative, but the pattern repeats endlessly. Mac comes out with something new (iPhone, for example), then the market produces something clearly better or at least, more workable (Android). Apple has banged out some great hardware lately, the MacBook Air is great... but now that the path has been cleared, others will build better - or at least as good. When that happens apple will be back to sales based on side by side, function by function comparison. And clearly, I'm not alone in thinking they are failing in that department.
I wish they would refocus some of their energy back on making our computers function effectively instead of deliberately crippling them.
Apple need to start listening to disabled people on this issue. Dowloadable rather than boxed software ("a good") is classed as a service, and therefore must be accessible to people with disabilities in the UK, under the Disability Discrimination Act...
Come on Apple, make a very quiet backdown and make the 10.6 scroll bars optional in all downloadable versions of OS X. The law is the law and overrules what Apple staff may like, want, or think is "trendy" or "cool"...
Sarah
Are you a member of an accessibility organization who could make this case? Apple isn't listening to anyone else. This might work. At least there should be a third party add on somewhere.
I used to work as an Assistive Technology Co-ordinator at a major UK university, still have many contacts / ex colleagues worldwide whom I am in touch with, and am on the phone to Apple as I type this, regarding this. I'm told that only one person can make a decision on returning the scroll bar arrows, but doesn't work on the Accessibility Team...
I'm still struggling with that one. It all seems a bit odd to me, like the biting of hands that feed you.
Apple are risking a lot in order to have what they may be thinking is a "tendy" GUI...
Sarah
The only person who I have been told can make a decision on this works in the Executive Relations Team, but recently apologised for my "loss of enjoyment"... Slightly missing the point there.
All of my Microsoft Office (especially Excel) and my Adobe CS6 Suite have been rendered less accessible by Apple, which I think amounts to deliberate / wilful damage. It would be like an Apple Executive having Sky TV, then Sky disabling the remote control making the Sky Box ridiculously difficult to use.
What about rendering their software almost impossible to use? I wonder how that would go down?
I employ 6 people, do my own tax and NI calculations etc. Using large spreadsheets now is an absolute accessibility nightmare, but, I guess that is what Apple misguidedly think is "progress".
Sarah
I know. I thought I would never see the day that I would even consider a Windows machine. The release of that version of the OS brought me right to it. I lost faith in the company. It was one of several dumb things they had done that year. I'm still in the Apple camp and can't realistically consider changing but I'm not enamored as I once was. Remember, "Mac users love their computers. Windows users use them when they have to." No more.
I won't upgrade my phone because now I can keep the same operating system instead of being unwittingly upgraded to the next iOS without realizing it and not being able to go back. All I want to do is use the thing, not have to learn new icons every year. I have better things to do than have Apple complicating my life.
PS. On several occasions, Apple have told me that they do not monitor these forums (missing out on free market research data there Apple. tut tut - know and do your SWOT Analysis on a daily basis Apple), but strangely, as soon as I put the contact details of the Executive Relations Team lady in a posting on here, it got removed....
Funny that, isn't it?
Sarah
They absolutely monitor. They just don't provide support.
You know that, and I know that, but when Apple said it wasn't true, I couldn't help but humour / indulge them. I have never known a company so famous lose it's understanding of the importance of customers and providing what they want.
Its almost as if they have adopted the old "we know best attitude" that used to be the bain of every disabled person's life. I know that it is not just disabled people who are unhappy about this, but that is the best analogy that I can think of at this moment.
Happy and returning / loyal customers = profits, wages, and bonuses for staff.
Why have Apple lost this basic level of understanding? It is very odd.
Sarah
It's the Classic Coke problem. They are focusing only on the phones and tablets and forgetting their desktop base.
Now I have to go struggle with Adobe updates.
You only have to phone Apple Support to know that. Computers are number 4 on the list of options after iPad, iPod, and something else I can't remember. ..
Apple need to refocus. They can't even get iPod design sorted anyway… My iPod Classic has died. My iTunes collection reflects the capacity of the iPod Classic, but the largest capacity iPod now is only 64gb.
Great of Apple to think of customers, they really seem to be loosing it…
Sarah
PS. If I wanted or needed a new watch, I'd go for somebody like Seiko… Companies need a focus…

Your post was removed because you broke the Terms Of Use the you agreed to when you joined these forums. You will be in receipt of an email as to why. If you cannot stick to basic terms of use in a user to user forum, then I do not like your chances of tackling Apple legally. Scroll Bar Arrows (we still have scroll bars) did not return with Yosemite so I doubt they will ever be seen in the outdated Mavericks. But you are welcome to contact Apple if you believe otherwise. Just don't break their TOU when doing so.
Cheers

Unbelievable. I cannot believe Apple would get rid of the scroll arrows. It is driving me crazy. I am constantly moving my mouse to the bottom right corner of the screen without thinking...I don't want to have to memorize new multi-key shortcuts. This is nonsense. Please Apple, PUT THE SCROLL ARROWS BACK.
And while you're at it how about giving us back cover art flow in iTunes too?!? Suck it up, pay the guy that invented it, and give us back the feature that hooked me on iTunes in the first place!
So disappointed.
