The verical scoll bar arrows are no longer there on OS X 10.7.

A while back one responder posted the solution to executing the appearance vertical scroll bar on right side of screen to show all the time, regardless of program (e.g., Safari):

Apple Menu > System Preferences > General > 1) Change selection from the apparent default setting in Lion of "Automatically based on mouse to trackpad" to "ALWAYS"; and 2) change 2nd option of Click into the Scroll bar from "jump to next page" to "jump to the spot that's clicked". I found this to immediately fix the problem in all programs I have opened - including Safari, Apple Mail, and Microsoft Word.

The problem seems to be the default setting set with Lion - and it not necessarily being intuitive as to how to change the vertical scrollbar settings by going into System Preferences.

I've solved this problem. I found a cheap HP with windows at Microcenter. Now I do my work on the windows comptuer and play on the mac. I'm not sure this is a direction Apple wants to go, but there it is. I've waited though two major systems to return this and other functionality, but they aren't coming. Between dropbox and evernote, I can write on the windows machine and it all finds it's way back to my mac desktop for backup, storiage and everything else. Not the solution I had hoped for, but it seems to be the only one we will get.

This is a golden moment for Microsoft to put apple out of the computer business. The iPad, in my opinion is an output device. It's BRILLIANT as such, but I don't see anyone doing any serious work, data entry, or writing on them at any time in the future. The mac was the data entry king, but it's not anymore. It's slowly evolving into a really overpriced iPad. I'm guessing that apple is working toward a major 'hybrid' between the two at some point in the future, but I can't afford to wait for it. I am, very sadly, in the 'switchers back' category. Breaks my heart.

Thank you for the idea. I am using Excel 2008, which doesn't accomodate Visual Basic. However I wrote four very simple Excel 4.0 macros which do the same thing and assigned up, down, left and right buttons to them in my usual toolbar. (For those who are interested the Excel 4 Macro commands are VLINE(-1), VLINE(1), HLINE(-1) and HLINE(1) followed by RETURN()).

I would have thought that the same thing could be done in Apple Script but I am not competent to do that.
