Any ideas on how to switch back to pre-Lion iCal and Address Book?
Does anyone know if busycal will work with yahoo calendar?? In theory it should because of CalDAV, but has anyone implemented this successfully?
Thnx
works fine
I have a google, yahoo & mobileme setup in busycl, no issues at all
these 3 are default configs, select which you want, enter username and password, done
Agree - this is beyond the dumbest thing that Apple has done. Just because it is so simple and idiotic. I hope this is not the beginning of the end. WHen companies get meteoric rises, hubris and complacency sits in. Ughhhhh.
I couldn't stand it either so I switched and am now demo'ing a copy of BusyCal, which looks and acts just like the old iCal but also has many more features. Basically what a real iCal should be. It seems really nice so far (a few days into the 30-day demo). I would try that before entourage, but then again my needs are much simpler (I am not part of a larger corporate network, and BusyCal syncs to Google Calendar and my iPhone, which is all I need.
Cost of BusyCal = Cost of Lion! come on! play fair.
The new iCal is hideous. It looks bad and now it doesnt serve its purpose well. Apple, if you are reading this, please give us back the useful, readable old iCal.
I have given up on waiting for Apple to fix their mistake!!!
I tried BusyCal and like it. It brings you back to the interface iCal had in SL and adds a couple of features that are pretty cool. For example if you want/need to edit an event you no longer have to double click to open that event... all you have to do is click on it once and you will find it in the lower right hand corner under the "To Dos.." list.
Since it's a 30 day free trial, I suggest you give it a go and let others know if you like it. Or if you have a suggestion let us know what we should try. I always open to try something better!!
Busycal is a fantastic App, definitely recommended
One of the biggest plus points for me (as well as being able to see more info on the screen), is repeating tasks
I was hoping the new iCal would have repeating tasks/reminders, but nope doesnt
Unfortunately none of these iCal alternatives, as far as I know, can be used to run ".scpt"s. I have about 10 such scripts that run weekly at various times including the middle of the night. They are indespensible to me.
Busycal intergrates with iCal
So if you have data in Busycal you also see it in iCal and can be edited in either
If a script file runs on iCal, the data should also get changed in Busycal
EDIT: just been looking at script files, while I cannot see how to do them in Busycal, they could still run on data from iCal calendar, but it could be annoying haveing to use both apps together
I have not had time to look at busycal but all reviews are good...
I did notice in the iCloud beta of iCal that the side bar with calendars are in the left hand sidebar permaniently... This is a small partial fix IF it comes back to iCal on the desktop... Still no mini months... sheeesh in a calendar app? cmon...
The best iCal was Tiger (I beleive, or earlier) where everything you needed to do was one click away. It has been down hill from there. Users cried out but nothing was done then either...
I understand Apple wanting to unify the interface on mac's as well as iOS devices and on iCloud BUT what they have done is create a calendar system that is perfect for say a soccer Mom or a dental appointment reminder. NOT for any serious / business use... I just dont get it...
To edit an event in iCal just right click on it and select "Get Info". You can then edit the event. A right click is only one click, right? 😉
<smaile> Very true Robert...
yes a right click is one click... Thanks for clearing that up.... sheeeesh
Which on a small screen causes a floating window to open that covers way to much screen realestate. I maintain 28 macs in my business. I know how to use iCal. I have been using it for many years and schedule many employees using it... Did you know you can go to the iCal menu bar / Edit / "Show Inspector" too...?
As I said, Apple had it nearly right back in tiger or one of the previous cats. It's been a trip down hill ever since...
Read this old apple discussion about the old BUT VERY USEFUL iCal Drawer:
Want my iCal info drawer back!!
Look for other threads about iCal 3.0 and earlier... iCal used to be good (maybe not as pretty - leather - really) But good...

Yes but that requires two clicks. 😟
