I installed Lion on a relatively new MacBook Pro (released early 2011) with an i7 dual-core processor. It is painfully slow, much slower than Snow Leopard was. Even things like surfing the internet (using Firefox) is very slow, and I see the little rainbow circular icon frequently.
Any ideas?

I have a mid 2010 mpb 15", osx lion, and I got tired of the slow boot time.
Can someone sum up the solutions for me? 21 pages of disperse information is hard to track!

Are you serious? Mountain Lion is the only solution for slow boots?
What about the rest, is mountain up to or better than lion?

Only with old PPC programs, same as Lion.

So besides clean installing mtn lion, how much would an SSD improve boot time and overall experience?
SSD should boot in 15-25 seconds, everything else is faster as well.
After a long long time with no beachball it startet over last week... Same problem, spinning for 20-30 seconds. Done all the stuff I know of to make it stop. Last time it went away after an update to ML 10.8.2 I think. I run 10.8.3 now and had that version since it came out, and with no problems until a week ago.
Stuck and sad...
You have updated the iOS too far. The guys in the Genius Bar took my 17" back to an earlier version Nd now it runs like a Mac Pro.
iOS cannot run on a Mac, only on iPads and iPhones. Also third three has been dormant for almost a year.
