Lion won't play .avi or .wmv correctly

Alright, so I deleted DivX and 3vx and kept Perian and updated it and also kept flip for mac. still nothing, BUT, when I hit the space bar to preview the avi movie it DOES play it. When I try to open it with quicktime, it does not! what am I doing wrong?

i have flip4mac and i upgrade it but still...

but its still quicktime x don't play .avi files however the preview works great

I too was having the issue of getting video, but no sound in avi files. I installed Perian and now I get sound with my videos.

Some people are having the reverse issue: Sound, but no video. I don't know if Perian will resolve that.

I did not install anything else such as divx helpers, only the Perian.

I also had the same problem. Thanks to Petronius_arbiter I looked in my

MacintoshHD/Library/QuickTime

folder and found an old Xvid codec lying around. Once i deleted that and reloaded my divx video in QT, worked like a charm.

I didn't realize that was still in there...

I just checked my quicktime folder and its empty....should I re-download it?

i found Xvid codec and i delete it.

i played .avi files and they won't play

i deleted perian and quicktime x play with no Video or sound

i installed perian and didn't played at all

Petronius, THANK YOU SO MUCH for the tip re: deleting vestigial 3ivX-Codecs. I'd been completely unable to play DV clips via Quicktime on Lion, but deleting the old 3ivX seems to have done the trick.

sometimes when i open .avi files some of them works but i don't know why

now i found out by a perian forum!!

its because .srt file for the movie or the tv series

because i watch tv series and they're .avi files and all've of them with .srt

i ha the same dramas as soon as i loaded lion ...wouldnt play my normal avi files which played fine in leopard!!! said something about didnt have the right codecs ...i loaded divx but i already had divx and rebooted ...that made no difference...the file played no worries through vlc player but i wanted quicktime so i could convert the files so i could watch them through my apple tv ...i read in this thread about perian and loaded that and now these files are now working ....very good !!!

There are some problems with the VIDEO CARD drivers in osx lion.

other forums are talking about macs freezing when watching a video after sleep modus of the mac.

the developers priview 10.7.2 fixes this issue.

maybe this also involves this case ?

Basically if you run iTunes 10.4 in 32 bit mode the plugins will work!

In order to be able to play wmv s using Lion, I Export them. Once exported, they work. Awkward, but will do until Apple tweaks the OS.

Just type DIVX on the SPOTLIGHT and open it in the FINDER, then delete them all.

Makes no difference.

luckily i never got rid of quicktime 7.6.2 so i just open all avi in it and it works fine with lion.
