Lion won't play .avi or .wmv correctly

I found the Xvid codecs in my ~/Library/Quicktime folder and deleted it.

That fixed it for me.

I removed DIVX and then from Library/Quictime removed the 3vix codec and did not even need to restart. Working for me now. I do have Perian installed.

Simple solution.

try this:

open finder -> programs -> right click app "QuickTime Player" -> click "Information" -> mark "open in 32-Bit Mode" -> done

make sure you restart QuickTime Player. does it help?

Had the exact same proble. Went to Library/Quicktime and I deleted 3ivxVideoCodec.Component. Now it works great !

I had the audio issue (and no video playback either) with Perian 1.2.3, which i updated to because it said it was for Lion. After reverting back to 1.2.2, all my playback issues disappeared.

I haven't checked to see if a 1.2.4 is out yet to fix but I'm sure holding onto the DMG file for 1.2.2, that's for sure!

Had the same issue. Deleting the extra 3ivX-Codecs resolved it instantly.

I was able to fix this problem by uninstalling:

Perian

VLC

Flip4Mac

and rebooting.

Presto. All the .avi files are able to play back normally. Hope this helps others.

ok, it worked but now i cant empty it from the trash! getting a 'item is locked' message but its not locked. tried force quit but still there. any ideas?

I moved XviD_Codec 1.0 alpha.component.unused from /Library/QuickTime to Trash and restarted and it AVI files worked again. Before that I had been able to load them but pressing play did nothing. I could even drag the timeline to any point in the file but it still would not play.

Sorry but problem is not solved yet! I use Lion, MacOS X version 10.7.1, and I don't have any QuickTime folder in my library, when googling this I find out that I more people don't have this. I don't find these files ("XviD_Codec 1.0 alpha.component.unused" or is it "3ivxVideoCodec.Component" ) which should be deleted, even when I try in Spotlight. My QTP (version 10.1) is marked for 32bit. So far I can't play .AVI or .WMV.

Should I install QT 7.6.2? and how?

I am having problems as well. I did not have any Xvid codec in my quicktime folder. I installed Divx and Perian and both did not work. This is a lion issue I just came from a clean install of SL where .avi played fine. After clean install of lion now i am having these issues. VLC plays fine, but I prefer to watch in quicktime. Help!
