Lion graphics extremely slow with Radeon HD 2600 Pro 256MB

Update: should've read it till the end before posting a link here... There's an actual workaround in the last post on the page! It worked for me.

Change resolution to a lower one then change it back to restore graphics performance without restarting.

The workaround with changing resolutions doesn't work for me, but I don't see any options to change refresh rate as well, is there a way to force them to appear? (mac pro, 5870, lion 10.7.3, old cinema hd monitor)

I changed to 1024x768 from 1920x1080 and refresh rate automatically jumped to 75Hz from 60Hz. Try setting lowest one.

After 10.7.4 update my early 2008 24" iMac is again with slow graphics even without entering in sleep mode.

Anyone with the same problem?

Did you try the kext fix after updating to 10.7.4?

There is simple solution recomended by apple, you need to buy new mac.

No, i didn't try the kext. After 10.7.3 was everything ok without kext.

Now the graphics aren´t so slow as before when returnig from sleep in 10.7.0 ->10.7.2, but they have a realy poor performance comparing with 10.7.3.

Installed ATI 10.6 kext and still the same slow graphics...

Same problem in 10.7.4 (mp 3.1, ati 5870)

I've noticed a twist, programs started before the sleep performs the same after sleep, (tried with xbench), but if you quit the program after sleep, and load again, performance is halved

In my case, a strange thing is that some applications are perfect like Safari scrolling or Launchpad.

Although the Launchpad is incredible smooth, Mission Control / Exposé and Quicklook are terrible choppy.

Today I opened AutoCad 2013 for the first time after 10.7.4 update and after then the system become smooth and fast as before!!! The graphics are now perfect again!

Well, I've definitely fixed my issue, replacing the thermal paste with Artic MX-4

Everything is running smooth now :-)

Looks like the new and shiny MacBook Pro 15" with Retina display has issues with the graphics drivers, too... I played around with the Safari browser today and recognized my iMac and Radeon problem while scrolling up and down the www.appleinsider.com page. Scrolling was very sluggish and not exactly beautiful.

I'm really looking forward to the first usage reports coming in...

i am also using a Mac Pro 3,1 with the Original 5770 from Apple and have the same issue. I am really angry about Apple. I bought just three years ago a mac Pro (yes the name is PRO) and six months ago i want to upgrade my graphics performance and so i spent 249€ for the 5770.

But the performance after sleep is only 16,5 fps in cinebench. After restart my performance is round abaout 35fps.

The performance after sleep is the same like my performance with the HD 2600.

Where can i contact the support for the graphic card? I didn´t found it on the site from Apple 😟
