800% CPU Usage used by Mail App?

Hi,

since i've upgraded to Lion my Mail App goes hurry up to 800% CPU Usage and more. My 2011 MacBook Pro goes very loud and hot. So after a few tips i've reinstalled complety the Lion (with a self made Lion CD) and reconfigured Mail (without any backup import). But nothing happens. I cannot leave Mail open a few minutes because it starts normally but then goes up to 100%, 200%,... new record yesterday was 800% of CPU Usage.

I have about 10 Mail IMAP Accounts with round about 6000 Mails. A friend as more than this and doesn't have such problems on his new iMac.

I'm very frustrated and don't know what should i do... at this point i cannot use the mail app.

Hope you could help me please!

Best,

Henny

i think i've got the solution for my problem with the mega high cpu usage on mail app...

  • Open the Disk-Management-Utility
  • Select your Mac OS Disk
  • Repair the access rights and wait.

After reopen the mail app (maybe you must restart too), the mail app works fine it seems for now and the cpu ussage is about 8% at the moment. i hope that was the solution.

I had similar problem after an update. It went away after I removed several Sfarri plugons and startup items. I cannot pinpoint the sole responsible, as all actions were executed in one batch (I suspect either the spelling library or internet plugins - as the Mail App kept running threads called "web content").

List of actions done (replace xxx with username), Mail and Safari must be stopped:

Removed inactive and unreachable email account (deactivated the account).

Deleted Envelope files from:

/Users/xxx/Library/Mail/V2/MailData/

(see other threads for instructions)

Removed old 3rd party spelling library from:

/Library/Spelling/

/Users/xxx/Library/Spelling/

Removed unused, old or unwanted Safari plug-ins:

/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/

/Users/xxx/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/

  • AdobePDFViewer.plugin
  • AdobePDFViewerNPAPI.plugin
  • Flip4Mac WMV Plugin.plugin
  • iPhotoPhotocast.plugin
  • SharePointBrowserPlugin.plugin
  • SharePointWebKitPlugin.webplugin
  • Unity Web Player.plugin

Removed unused or unwanted startup items from:/Users/xxx/Library/LaunchAgents//Library/LaunchAgents//Library/LaunchDaemo ns/

  • com.adobe.AAM.Updater-1.0.plist
  • com.adobe.ARM.df0ab5bbe6f698196fcc21e3c1e66dcb758bd911f4d637272d9d8109.plist
  • com.adobe.fpsaud.plist
  • com.adobe.SwitchBoard.plist
  • com.bombich.ccc.plist
  • com.google.keystone.agent.plist
  • com.google.keystone.daemon.plist
  • it.infn.lnf.network.AFSBackgrounder.plist
  • org.ocsng.agent.plist

Viola, after a full restart and rebuild of Envelope files, Mail App is docile keeping its paws off my CPU when nothing is asked of it.
