New Mac Mini with LED 24" LED Display

Hello all,

I just got myself a new Mac Mini yesterday. I connected it to my existing 24" LED Display. Prior to this, my display was connected my MacBook (2009) and I have never had any problems. Since yesterday (connected to my Mac Mini), my LED goes black from time to time (0.1 s randomly). There are quite a few theories about why it does this. Since I have never had this problem before, it seems to me that it maybe something to do with the new Thunderbolt port (on MAC mini) which is used for the display as well. In fact I have read an interesting article

I suspect the same problem is happening with the new MAC mini.

I am keen to see if there will be a firmware fix from Apple, on either the MAC mini or the Display.

Wow this "fix" is such a tease for me and I am very angry. As I write, as if to reinforce this, my 24 inch display keeps 'shaking' or momentarily going to black. I have an early 2011 macbook pro and the 24 inch AND YET when I try to install the fix it says that my computer doesn't need it.

Oh I see everything is alright is it? No its not as I have a monitor that I paid a not at all cheap £700 ($1200) for not three years ago that keeps flickering. And I am supposed to lug it to an Apple store where there isn't even one anywhere near the city where I live.

Talk about a tease and a kick in the teeth. I am very very wary of Apple and their serious lack of 'care' and the expectation that the lifetime of a piece of equipment (for hooking up to other equipment) is as fleeting as the blink of an eye.

Grrrrrrr

Hi Spunky,

Good idea but it didn't work for me.I tried closing the lid so the laptop display goes out (though then the trackpad stops working!) and then using my wacom tablet, but I get the same message saying "your computer does not need this update"...

...Obviously I beg to differ that I don't at least need 'an' update. I did install an update that was released a few months ago that was supposed to fix flickering. I wonder if this is just a rerelease of that fix?

In any event my excedingly annoying, though at least sporadic, flickering goes on and on and on and on...

Cheers

Hi Tony,

sorry for that. When did you buy your display? Mine is from 2009.

I also remember that I installed an update for the iSight camera a few months ago...

Not sure about any link in between but I have nothing else to suggest....

hmmm....did you try to restart your computer with the lid closed and then apply the firmware update?

another user had a similar problem, maybe you can try to get information from him

I found out what was wrong with my setup or method from the macbook thread. I needed to have the USB from the monitor plugged in as well as the minidisplay port. I plugged the USB in et voila the update started. It then started loading the firmware update to the monitor and now hopefully I am without flicker. So far so good (after 10 minutes) I have no flicker. Hopefully this has worked a treat!

This makes me all the more confused as to why Apple pulled the fix or didn't promote it to a more prominant place.

Cheers

Tony
