Hey for the longest time i've been having the same problem after I installed OS X Lion, i did all the stuff i could, repair disk permissions, verify from recrover disk, etc. But the main thing that i finally did was change a setting in my Finder. In lion instead of going to your normal user folder like in previous versions of Mac, it goes to "All my files". Now im not sure about anyone else but i changed the default finder window back to my user folder (from the prefrences) and ever since not only has the finder window been loading normally like how it did in Snow Leopard but also ever since the whole system's been moving faster. Just a suggestion. If you try it, lemme know how it works, Good luck!

As suggested by someone else... I restarted my MacBook Pro (Late 2008 w/4 gb), held down OPTION + R on reboot to enter the restore desktop. In the restore desktop, I selected Disk Utility, ran Verify Disk. Disk Utility indicated the need to repair the boot drive. I prompted Disk Utility to repair the boot drive, then upon completion I elected to repair the drive's permissions. When all was complete I rebooted, signed in and my MacBook Pro is FAST again!

Do this and all should be FAST again!

I just went back to Snow Leopard yesterday and it's fast like a sports car. so my computer doesn't feel like it's 10 years old even it's brand new. Lion is worst than vista and that was released like 5 years ago. It was such a frustrating experience. I did all the little tricks and hints people where talking about on this page and elsewhere and I even reinstalled Lion from the scratch two times but at the end the computer slows down again, Preview crashes almost every day, Finder refuses to shut down, the sleep modus doesn’t work, multi tasking is not functioning, the screen freezes for no apparent reason and so on and so on. Especially multitasking is a nightmare with Lion. It almost seems that Lion is not capable of using several cores at the same time. If u switch between programs it sometimes takes several seconds. If u work with Lighroom it can take up to a minute and longer just to export a simple jpg while under Leopard it takes 5 seconds.

So after five month dealing with all these problems it makes me really angry if people just claim on this page here that if u run "Verify Disk"everything will be OK. That’s absolute nonsense !!!! I can only advice everyone who is still thinking to get Lion not to do it and to wait maybe a year or two. Lion is slow and will be slow in the future that is my prediction. It is just not designed to be fast. And the advantages over Leopard are so marginal that I don't see a good reason to deal with all this multiple dificulties.

Millions thank you and treasure your opinion. You should be proud.

Thank You

Ok people, I figured out what my problem is. I was comparing my macbook pro i5 to other friends macs. It turns out that MACKEEPER was the culprid. I know lots of you use it without properly uninstalling and reinstalling the lion version. If you have MacKeeper installed on your system, this could be your solution. Here's the instructions I got from mackeeper chat support:

Step One:

Drag MacKeeper from your applications folder to trash, but DO NOT EMPTY IT YET!

Step Two:

Restart your computer

Step Three:

Empty the trash

Step Four:

Download and install the new MacKeeper from http://mackeeper.zeobit.com/download

I hope this helps someone out there as it worked miracles for me. Go on, spread the word if it works for you too... 🙂

No, no, no. You do NOT want to install MacKeeper. At ALL, EVER, under ANY circumstances.

How did you uninstall it? Did you use the supplied uninstaller? If so, I'd like to know a couple of things:

i. Did the uninstaller ask you for any personal information before allowing you to uninstall? If yes, what?

ii. After uninstalling and restarting your computer, are there any 'mackeeper helper' processes running in the backgournd (run the Activity Monitor.app and search for 'Mackeeper'. Choose 'All Processes' (not 'All Processes Hierarchically') in the drop down menu in the title bar of Activity Monitor's main window, and type 'Mackeeper' in the filter box. Do the same with 'zeobit' and '911'.

iii. If you have EasyFind (if not, you can geet it for free), could you type in 'MacKeeper' and see if it finds anything. Also 'Zeobit' and '911'. Make sure you set EasyFind to search invisible files and folder, and package contents.

I would be very grateful if you could let us know the answer to these questions. You will be grateful too, to know that the uninstaller really did uninstall everthing (I have reports of users who say it doesnt', and I'd like to verify whether that's true or not).

Thanks in advance!
