Apple Event: May 7th at 7 am PT

Using Lion how can I create a "to do" reminder when in mail?

Creating iCal "to do" reminders in Mail is a very important feature to me. Seems that in Lion this is no longer available. I can create events but no reminders. Anyone know how to this can be done?

Mac Pro, Mac OS X (10.7)

Oh great. So as well as eschewing the "if it isn't broke don't fix it" pholosphy, we now have an "if we mess it up, remove the feature" approach.

Brilliant.

"fix" is beinning to take on a whole new meaning. AND we have to wait for a new OS drop to lose the feature. Well at least that gives me the option to not do it.

I'm beginning to give up on these guys.

Hi everyone. I had talked with Apple a couple weeks ago. The iCal advisor sent the problem to the engineers to find out what is expected from these drags and drops. So I called again today. Another iCal advisor checked the notes and saw no response from the engineers.

So, I detailed the motions again. I have a Macbook Pro, started with Snow Leopard and updated to Lion. I explained to the advisor that to create a reminder, I can grab the Mail header, drag it to iCal, and drop it in the middle events column with a particular calendar selected. I told him that none of you on the forum have been able to do this; the event doesn't show up.

In my case, to make a reminder, I grab the event and drag it to the reminders column. However, the reminder doesn't appear until I either (1) close and re-open iCal, or (2) make a new reminder and delete it.

So the new advisor put me on hold while he tried it. He tried this in Snow Leopard and it worked as it did for me, including dropping the reminder. Then he tried this in a "clean" Lion (no previous OS underneath). It didn't work at all. He couldn't even drop an event.

So what to do? He said that Mountain Lion is revising reminders completely and I should look forward to its release this summer.

Bummer bummer bummer. You all were right, the event drop doesn't work, and I thank you all for not slapping me silly. He didn't know why it works on mine.

So, so sorry. Yours bummed out,

DeAnne

This has been annoying me for some time and I read this thread with interest. Surely the work around (and there should not need to be one) is to create a ToDo Calander and drag the mail header toward that Calendar? That Calendar will then generate popup 'reminders' so long as it is running?

I have to say 'Reminders' on the MacPro are near useless and even more limiting than on the iPhone.

This is now a total a total pain, in Snow Leopard, I couldn't make a ToDo and but was told to click on a word and make the word the ToDo and then change the Word to a meaninging full reminder. Didn't work every time and when I complained and was told it would be fixed in Lion. It got worse !!!

I want to right click and set a ToDo and have the **** email open when the time comes to get me to do the work associated with the email or the file attached to the email.
