Bluetooth audio in OSX Lion

this isn't minutae laden -- but I am now quite sure that the headphone (what kind, that is) is a red herring. I think this is a bluetooth problem pure and simple and that it is somehow unhappy with mail. Whether or not my headphones are on, whether or not itunes is open; whenever I access mail --- to read, write or even to automatically get it -- the error message described so clearly above pops up. I cannot access mail, nor, if I am away, can mail be auto delivered until I click "stop using headphones" If I AM running itunes on internal speakers, the music is interrupted. (stops). When I quit mail everything works just fine.

hortensia is right - it's Mail --- I just inadvertantly tested it when I read her post via email - so I went into Mail, the headset stopped working ... repeated the process and it happened again.

At first it did pair just fine until it was supposed to play a sound, then I got the same error as you guys. I unpaired it and now my MacBook Air on Lion can´t even find the handsfree. It works fine with my android phone.

I have the Motorola S305 bluetooth headset which quit working when Lion was installed.

I went into bluetooth preferences and deleted any trace of bluetooth headphones. Then turned bluetooth off on both mac and headphones. Turned BT back on in Lion, started "Setup new BT device", turned on headphones and... It paired and works great!

I have deleted the headset and reconfigured it with Bluetooth setup assistant. I have zapped the PRAM. I have deleted the com.apple.Bluetooth.plist file from the Library and the com.apple.BluetoothAudio.plist file from the user Library. Shut Down and restarted. Reconfigured the headset again and still no joy.

I have also tried with a new User account. Same result.

Safe mode had no effect on the situation.

Did you delete the Bluetooth-related plist.lockfiles (if that's possible)?

PRetty much echoes my problems. Jawbone JAMBOX (latest firmware, etc). Worked fine in Sow Leopard. Works fine with iPhone. No workee with Lion.

However, it works ok when it's turned on and paired with the Mac. When I turn the JAMBOX off, I keep getting the headset error (even after I've repeatedly pressed "stop using headset"). Only way to permanently stop the error is to "unpair" the Mac.

So far, no crashes or panics.

Same problem here too, Jambox by Jawbone. MBA 13" late 2010.

After Lion upgrade it connected fine with pairing made in SL but audio kept cutting in and out continiously when using iTunes. Did an unpair and a new pair and then it connects but a few seconds later the Audio error get reported. Upgraded the Jambox to thier latest firmware but problem still exists. Jambox still works fine with iPhone.

Clearly a Mac OS issue.

In regards to that a mono headset may work it may be the Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP) that they have a problem with but the Hands-Free Profile (HFP) and Headset Profile (HSP) are working fine.

Filing a bug report too and hope they fixed this in the next update.

(Saw some where else that someone said that the BT audio support in Mac OS was not the best and that they wished Apple would redo it for Lion, so maybe this goes under the headline "Be careful what you wish for!" 🙂

I've also been having bluetooth audio problems. Back in Tiger, my Bose bluetooth headset worked fine with audio from itunes, Skype calls, etc. Since upgrading to Lion, neither the input or output will function. Even after spending 1 1/2 hours on the phone with Apple Care and re-pairing, resetting, etc...basically all of the troubleshooting steps, it still doesn't work. The bluetooth device is clearly recognized and connected, as the volume adjustment in 'audio settings' changes as I press the up or down button on the headset. My Blackberry seems to connect via bluetooth as normal for file sharing and tethering. And the Bose BT headset also works perfectly with the Blackberry and other phones. So clearly this is a software issue with OS Lion that they have yet to resolve. I'm tempted to revert back to Tiger and request a $29.99 refund--the Bluetooth audio is an important feature for me.

I have unpaired JawBone Icon from my iMac [2007] and removed from favorites and deleted from BT devices turned off BT.

I restarted iMac...paired JawBone Icon and selected it in sound preferences items.

Same terrible audio in/audio out with iChat/FaceTime/PhotoBooth/Skype.

Let's stop blaming applications and start working on a solution from Apple & JawBone leaning towards a Lion BT audio incompatability.

When you used to activate JawBone Icon in Snow Leopard BT interface, you were asked "Use as Audio Device Mono" or "Use as Audio Device Stereo"

The only option now is "Use as Audio Device" even when A2DP settings are enabled.

Come on folks...Lion was introduced months ago and production model was available three weeks ago.

The JawBone Lion updater was supposed to do what?

Silence from Apple [are you there board moderator?] on this is as deafening as the audio in my BT device

I'm also experience this problem with my plantronics voyager pro.

Just one more to add to the bunch - I wish I had come here sooner - I really thought my pricey Seinnheiser PX 210 were just dead - I just couldn't imagine something so simple could really have changed in Lion - I now really really wish I had not changed OS - (I also have macscribe which does not work with Lion - so together it has been a real all around dissappointment) - I hope they fix this

Same with Sennheiser MM400. Waiting for Lion+ ;-)

I am having similar problems using a BlueParrot BT X250 headset. Worked perfectly with Skype until I upgraded to Lion. Now I have a stuttering drop-out and quasar like booming background noise that makes calls unintelligible (input and output). My Plantronics USB headset works flawlessly with Skype. I have been through three levels of support with Skype; they were very responsive but have given up and suggested I go to Apple support, and lo, here you all are. I have submitted a bug report, thanks for the suggestion. Given the number of fixes suggested by Skype (clean install of Skype latest, deleting preference files, checking requirements and firewall settings etc. etc.) and those I tried (deleting all bluetooth devices, rebooting, reinstalling, etc. etc.) it seems clear to me the problem is the Lion upgrade. I hope Apple will address this soon, as among all the other things Lion rendered useless, this is the most annoying.

For those interested I installed 10.7.1....same choppy/crappy audio in/out using a JawBone Icon BT earpiece.

Looks like Lion 10.7.1 didn't address those of us with BT Audio/Connectivity issues.

It appears we all need to scream louder!!!

There is nothing said about any BT problem in the changelog description.
