Kindle not working on Lion
The Kindle application that I use to read my Kindle books on the Mac is no longer working under Lion. It can't synchronize for some reason.

Me, too... I lost my archived books, but when I reinstalled the application, I have been unable to register.
Yes, same issue here. Won't accept registration. I contacted Amazon and they sent me the following:
1. Open “Terminal” by going to Mac Hard drive > Applications > Utilities > Terminal.app
2. Type in Terminal the following line:
chflags nohidden ~/Library/
3. Hit enter.
Once you're done with the above steps on your Mac, please follow the below steps too:
1. Close the Kindle for Mac application.
2. Open the hard drive from the desktop.
3. Open the "Users" folder.
4. Open the folder with the current user's name. The folder icon will be a house.
5. Open the "Library" folder.
6. Open the "Application Support" folder.
7. Open the folder named "Kindle".
8. Delete folder named "Storage"
9. Re-open the Kindle for Mac application.
10. You'll now be prompted to register.
I've tried it several times and it hasn't worked - now bracing myself to call them...
Update. Just spent a happy hour on the phone with Amazon. To cut a long story short, we couldn't fix it and it appears to be an issue with the Kindle for Mac app and Lion. The very helpful guy I spoke to is passing it to the techies and hopes to come back to me within a couple of days.
Had the same problem yesterday. Kindle will not sync with the Amazon servers for some strange reason. I'm surprised the kindle developers did not see this coming. I hope it gets resolved very soon.
I had the same problem and after hours of searching finally got it fixed.
Uninstall the Kindle App.
Go to your ~/Library/Application Support/ and delete the Kindle folder.
Then go to ~/Library/Prefrences/ and find the "com.amazon.kindle.plist.lockfile" and "com.amazon.Kindle.plist" files and delete those.
Redownload fresh copy of the Kindle App and try to login again.
After I did that it worked like a champ for me. I spent hours just trying to login and and it kept timing out. But I knew it would work, becuae my other lion computer was able to sign in. Hope this works for you guys.
Thanks for the input, Raptorguy. I tried your suggestion, using CleanMyMac to uninstall the app - whch also deleted the Kindle folder in the library and the preference files you mention (and a couple of other related files). Re-downloaded, re-installed, but no dice - still won't register.
Interesting that if I go to Kindle's Manage My Devices page whenever there's been a failed attempt to register, my Mac has been set up as a device there, so there's obviously some degree of communication going on.
Also the preferences pane in the Kindle app simultaneously shows both an 'Unregistered' statement AND a 'Deregister' button alongside it! How can you deregister something that isn't registered? I just think there's something wrong within the app, which has not been properly updated for Lion.
The Gods must be angry with Arteta and I. I tried your method about 4 time without any luck. Even when I delete the Kindle folder, the check for problems test is still failing 2 of 4 test - you can find it under the Help menu.
I will keep you posted. Thanks for your input.
I just attempted the uninstall / re-install process with no luck. I get the Registration Timed Out - Please Try Again message. I wonder if it is a local firewall issue with Lion. I'll do a little research.

This approach did work for me, following the recipe above exactly (no Clean for Mac used): Thanks, Raptorguy 🙂

Well, worked great on one Mac but not the other.
Phil
OK Finally followed Raptorguy's directions and it worked! Thank you!
Was on the phone with a kindle app support engineer who emailed me the same steps listed above - after a number of attempts, we had no luck. I dug around a little bit and realized that there seems to be a problem with a configuration file used by kindle.
If you go to the Preference submenu under the kindle main menu, you might find an interesting error - The application realizes that you are registered but does not show your user information. This happens after you have reinstalled a kindle and attempted to register it (even if it fails).
The "Register" button will have a new caption "Deregister" - if you check your devices on the Amazon site, you will have a list of registered kindle devices for each registration attempt.
I looked at the content of the com.amazon.kindle.plist file but was unable to find anything useful to edit. For those of you who have had some success restoring your app, will it be possible to find out of there is a key and value pair that show the user information. I assume this may be part of the problem.
Well, that's just you, me, and 50% of w7ox still with the problem! Your observations pretty much replicate mine in my previous post. I've now uninstalled/re-installed/tried to re-register 7 or 8 times using these instructions, but still the same end result - registration times out. Most interesting that w7ox can make it work on one Mac, but not on the other - seems to rule out 'human error' as the reason it can't be fixed, more likely the vagaries of one particular set-up versus another. It's now a day since Amazon promised their senior techies would get back to me within a couple of days, so I'm giving up now until I hear from them. I will post whatever they say - evn if it doesn't work for me, it might work for someone else.
I just dragged the Kindle app to the bin. Downloaded from Amazon but that didn't work. Deleted again. Make sure you download it from the App store then it works no problem.
mummykins, you're a genius! Deleted Kindle, downloaded it from the App Store instead of Amazon, and it worked perfectly first time! Now kicking myself that I didn't think of that, as it's not the first time there has been some variation between the App Store and 'own brand' versions of an app, I remember something similar with Evernote. Happy days...
