Kindle not working on Lion

The Kindle application that I use to read my Kindle books on the Mac is no longer working under Lion. It can't synchronize for some reason.

I tried your directions on both my Intel iMac and my MacBook Pro, with no success; same timeout message as before. The only thing I did differently was not to redownload the Kindle app; I just used the same .dmg file I downloaded recently.

Many thanks to the person who included the chflags command to make ~/Library visible again; that was an irritating feature of Lion.

I think maybe that was your mistake, not downloading the app anew. All I needed to do was drag the Kindle app icon from the applications folder to the trash then download a new Kindle app from the App store NOT Amazon and it then worked. I certainly didn't faff about with cleaners and such stuff. Originally I tried to use the .dmg, didn't work, new download from Amazon didn't work - had all the could not register, timeout stuff. Only the app store download worked and straight away.

I did two things. First, I downloaded Kindle directly from Amazon on my new MBA running Lion. I couldn't register. I uninstalled this Kindle application and instead went to the AppStore and installed it from there. Different version. Registered fine. No collections.

It seems that there is a problem with the latest from Amazon, but that what you get from the AppStore is working just fine.

I haven't tried any of the previous advice, with the latest from Amazon.
