I would guess user error.
Keith Contarino,
Your point, well said. There has always been a negative element on these discussion boards for as long as I can remember. It's a shame really because there are a lot of very good people who have been extremely helpful to me and others in the past. So, although there are some who habitually come on here with the sole purpose of winding people up with responses that have a dual role: 1) to troll, 2) do it in a way that ducks the Rules, there are a lot of people who genuinely want to help. But at the same time, those people who troll on a regular basis, squeal to the Mods when anyone else exposes them for the people they are. Ironically, it's the ones who have their knuckles rapped for responding and standing up to the bullies, that have their posts deleted. It isn't fair, but then life isn't. Anyway, moving on!
I have dealt with enough Macs with Lion problems over the months to know that your issues with Lion are not user error, but are indeed, as "millions" of others have found, fundamental errors within the OS itself. It should "just work" like it says on the tin. They will probably sort the bugs out over time, because Apple is a responsible company, but every now and then, they get it wrong. There's nothing unusual about that, all firms make mistakes. But what is irritating is when followers and trolls post on here and elsewhere for no reason other than to inflame.
My advice would be to do a clean install of LIon, AFTER doing a clone of whatever OS and files you have on your current machine - then if it all goes wrong, or you just don't like it, you can always go back. Avoid Time Machine because that too can be a snake in the grass. Do a clone. Better still, instal Lion on an external hard drive as a bootable OS - as I have - then you can swap between the two as and when you are brave enough, or wish to experiment.
I, personally haven't had the amount of problems others have had, but I have worked and helped dozens of people who have, and I can tell you that in most cases the OS was installed by following Apple's own instructions and guidelines. What is noteable, is that in Tiger and Leopard (and Panther) there was less chance of producing a troublesome installation than there now is with Lion.
Good luck with yours, and if you need help and guidance, I would avoid this thread and search the Discussions for a similar problem, or just Google it - you very often find help over at Mac Rumors et al.
