Hi,
I am using MS Office 2010 and I had just upgraded my OS from Snow Leopard to Lion. After the upgrade, I had observed that each time I open my MS Word/Excel, it keeps opening those previous file that I had opened before.
How can i stop this? I hope to revert to the old times where each time i open Word/Excel, it would be a new document and NOT it automatically open those previous files.
Pls advise.

OMG! File-Close! Imagine! Problem solved! 12 years if OSX and that never occurred to me!
Oh, wait! Yeah, that was the first thing I did 2 years ago. There's a problem with permissions dude. Maybe read the thread?

If you hold down OPTION and CMD/Apple keys then press W it will close all the windows you have open in an application. Then I go to file menu and select Quit and Keep Windows open while holding the OPTION key.

This problem was annoying and when I found this thread I also found a solution...
Open Excel, and then go to Preferences (Command+,) then you should check if you have anything in the line "At startup, open all files in:"
I don't know when I made it, but I was fighting this for months until today 🙂
None of the above worked for me.
Turns out it was a Lion Server: Access control lists (ACLs) issue.
Fixed it by removing Access Control on the directory in question by opening a terminal and typing:
sudo chmod -R -N ~/Library/"Saved Application State"
Holding shift down while starting Word 11 running Yosemite 10.10.4 worked-Thanks A. Timleck! Also--the next time i opened it, the annoying 3/4 document windows did NO come back. Easy fix!
