Restore bounce to Mail in Lion

Hi,

Does anyone know of a tweak or 3rd party program / patch to restore the bounce button capability?

It seems like I found a possible work around this morning that added the bounce function back via a tweak of the Mark Message as Junk button, but my first attempt at implementing it did not work and I can't find that thread again.

Thanks much!

Regrettably I see a lot of going - around - in - circles.

Here is the proof the Bounce feature can work. There is a program out there called eMail Bounce Handler at:

http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/7132/email-bounce-handler

and other places.

The purpose of eMail Handler is to Sort Out Bounced Mail from an email campaign list. This program allows an Advertiser to keep his or her list current and functional. ( Malicious spamers don't give a rats *** and probably don't review the poop they leave behind.)

I have been using Bounce for years (no I don't have Lion) and my spam and advert junk is almost -0-. Finally, There is the imperical proof. If I Bounce a spoof or fake or physing email, and it bounces back to me as a fake address of origin - why then does the spammer Not come again the next day or next week ?? It doesn't, and that is why I have almost -0- spam.

Nathan, yo udo not seem to understand how serious the issue is, and that it is not a technical issue (apple cannot implement it etc.), but a weapon against those who use it. Discussions go around in circles, because those who wish ‘mail bounce’ are not aware of the complex situation behind this feature, and are not interested in any argument invoked, they simple want bounce mail back, period, disregarding how intelligent (or stupid) arguments against are.

Of course the feature can work, and did work, but the issue, the real issue is elsewhere.

You're a real bummer. I'm not a spammer - I'm a spammee. AKA; victim of spam.

What was the purpose of you replying in this manner?

I used to be able to bounce spam, now I can't .

It seemed to work and while Corelation isn't Causation, the result of having and using that "bounce" button seemed to work great for me. If you don't like it, you wouldn't have to use it.

Still, I suppose they got rid of it for some reason.

Now, please explain your reply.

Bouncing spam almost always ends up sending the bounce to an innocent party whose email address has been spoofed or hijacked. Thus, by bouncing spam, you are sending it to someone else, not back to the spammer. Further, excessive use of such bounces could end up getting your Internet access cut off. That was well-documented some time ago in this thread. I'd advise folks to go back and read all the responses on this topic rather than continuing to repost questions that have already been answered numerous times.

When you bounce spam it almost always does not go to the spammer but to an innocent 3rd party, making you the new spammer.

And as you state here you already know that:

I have had success with Bounce and having it reduce my junkmail. I too would like to see it returned.

So you knowingly bounce spam at random, fully aware that it may go to a 3rd party, you're a spammer, stop.

It's a shame that the OP didn't come back and mark this as 'solved'. Whether you think bounce is good or bad, that is NOT the question being asked. The question is 'how to do it?' not 'should I do it?'.

I know some people don't like the idea of allowing each individual to decide for themselves, but nevertheless there is no law against it and thus its up to each to decide for themselves.

So, for those that choose to do it, you can either:

1. Use this add-on for Mail.app in Lion

or

2. Use Mozilla's Thunderbird.app instead of Mail, and get the 'Mail Redirect' add on.

Why bother, Redirect exists in Mail without installing 3rd party add-ons.

Well, I've never had anyone complain or ask why they got an email returned that wasn't from them, nor have I ever gotten someone's "bounced" email sent back to me. So I personally have never experienced what you claim.

But again, if this is happening, it's not my problem. If your name is spoofed and you get bounced emails from me, that's your problem and up to you to figure out.

I want to bounce my junk mail and you haven't proven it's an awful thing to do in-spite of your claims.

I don't care what you think about it, you are uninformed and a spammer, I'll have nothing more to do with you.

I am sure you think you have good reason to say these things, but I can't agree.

But the bottom line is that Apple is unlikely to restore Bounce anymore than Microsoft is likely to put it into Outlook. Why? Because I am sure their legal departments tell them not to be complicit with the creation of backscatter, for which they could be sued.

Is 'Redirect' the same as 'Bounce'?

In response to your post (above) suggesting Thunderbird and Mail Redirect add-on I point out that Mail already possesses the ability to redirect.

Whether 'Redirect' is an equivalent to 'Bounce' is of no concern to me, I detest casual use of either.
