Audio Clicks and Pops appearing in clips

In the final stages of editing a project that truly tests your machine, I am now running in to a mysterious problem.

I am nearly completely finished with a semi-complex project. Just in recent hours, certain clips have started developing "Clicks" and "Pops" that are very, very distinct. This might be fine.... if I were able to correct them. But conveniently, it appears that Final Cut Pro X does not give you this capability.

Is there a way to correct Clicks and Pops in FCPX? If not, is there some explainable reason why my audio is creating these problems slowly and surely? (the source media does not have the clicks)

Thank you for your insight!

Hello,

Clicks and pops are back with FCPX 10.1.4. Working with .MTS files and using only uncompressed files (aiff) for background music.

It's clicking and poping. Fortunately it appears only occasionaly, but still it appears and it is extremely annoying. All my audio sample rate is 48kHz.

If I'm rendering shorter parts of timeline, the pops either disapear or change location.

And of course the clicks won't appear when I'm not using limiter or compressor.

As I understand the issue is up from 2011 when Lion appeared. After that they fixed the problem, but now it is back.

Any solutions (solution is not reinstall, new Event etc.)?

Hello again,

More than a year ago I posted this subject. Is this unsolvable issue? Unfortunately nothing is changed and clicks and pops are still there in FCPX audio. Now even in the plain imported file. I rendered material without compressing or adding any sound enhancements nore music bedding.

Now I see some tutorials have appeared that suggest to convert audio (which is originally AAC) to mp3 and to create new compound clip... .

Seriously? I have approximately 5000 MTS files that should within couple of months come together as 8 episode documentary for National TV and I'm really keen to release them without any clicks and pops ... .

Or should I put the credits of the series that clicks and pops in the audio are brought to You by Apple?

There must be some solution for that.

Please advise.

Lemo

I'm working with FCPX 10.1.4

Hi,

No I haven't as there is no notification of the click and pop bug fixing:

Final Cut Pro X release notes - Apple Support

Do You have any information that it is fixed? All this clicking and poping started for me with 10.1 updates. Anyway, it's funny that Apple does not accept it as bug and does nothing. As I see in the forums, the issue is common.

I'm sure Apple people follow the feed, so: "Hello Apple people, help me out with the issue. Fix it."

And about not upgrading.

The main reason for me not to upgrade is that for a year in a row I've been editing different TV series and there have not been a brake between projects.

As I understand the most stupid thing to do is to update editing program in the middle of project. Even if I have backed up everything.

Am I wrong?

kind regards,

Lemo

Hi Tom,

Please explain me this then: The files are imported to the timeline. I have done NOTHING with the audio. No fades, no editing, no compression, no music bedding. Nothing.

It is a 1 hour row of Sony MTS files that have AAC audio. I selected them and Shared as a master file.

Final format was 720p, mp4.

And these clicks and pops are there.

What it is then if it is not a bug? A ghost? Am I an idiot?

I have not seen correct solution for this issue in different forums. Yes, there is suggestion to convert acc to mp3 and then make new compound clip, but excuse me. With 5000 files - no way.

The problem appeared with 10.1 updates.

MTS with compressed audio is complete crap and should never be used in production. Raw MPEG transport stream files should only ever be used in acquisition and delivery. Transport stream as its name says is for broadcast delivery, only in briadcast much higher data rates are used than generated in most cameras.

STarting with with that you need to give chapter and verse on how this garbage is getting into your computer. What exactl are to doing to acquire this? Has this been ripped out of an AVCHD bundle?

Dont know who would tell you to convert to MP3.
