Profile Manager suddenly stopped working

Hi all—I hope you're having better luck with Lion Server than I am...

Last night, I was having an issue with Profile Manager where I could install the self-signed SSL certificate onto an iPad, but the mobileconfig file wouldn't complete installation on the device due to "invalid signing."

Today, Profile manager wouldn't load at all, neither would the Lion Server landing page. https://foo.local/ displays:

Index of /

Apache/2.2.19 (Unix) mod_ssl/2.2.19 OpenSSL/0.9.8r DAV/2 PHP/5.3.6 with Suhosin-Patch Server at foo.local Port 443

https://foo.local/profilemanager displays:

Profile Manager service is turned off.

You can turn it on by using the Server app on the server.

I have tried turning Profile Manager on and off a few times from the Server app, as well as restarting the machine, which doesn't change anything.

Any advice is appreciated, thanks 🙂

Or please respond if you're having the same or similar issue so I know I'm not alone.

I gladly concur. having reinstalled fresh and using a .private now instead of my .com appears to work like a charm. My #1 guess is indeed that the reason this failed was because the DNS for some reason failed to resolve backwards correctly... Which is relatively infuriating since indeed the whole Mac OS stack was configured correclty but it still seemed to be willing ot ignore some elements of its configuration.

Resetting apache may be a good option. I didn't tested it yet, but as long as I work without certificate everything is working fine. As soon as I select a certificate (not self signed but a "real" one from positiveSSL) device/profile manager keeps on crashing.

I'll definitely try to reset apache. You can try to set certificates to none and see what happens.

I saw this elsewhere

1. Turn off all web services (i.e. Web, Wiki, Profile Mgr) in Server app.

2. For all Shared Folders disable WebDav (i.e. uncheck share via WebDav option) in Server app

3. In Terminal window execute the command "sudo serveradmin command web:command=restoreFactorySettings"

4. Turn Web back on again in Server app.

5. Turn Wiki and Profile Manager back on in Server app

6. Re-enable all your WebDav shares.
