Everybody settle down about Lion!

So far Lion has been out for 4 days, sure there are going to be bugs its the first version of a new operating system!, of course everything isnt going to be perfect. Apple is already seeding (or about to seed) 10.7.2 for developers and this should fix some bugs and problems.

People need to settle down about simple little bugs, i have two macs that i upgraded a couple of days ago and so far havent had any bugs whatsoever, and even if i come across some i certinetly wont retreat back to Snow Leopard.

Maybe its just me but my issues with lion is that i had to update Parallels software and i had to have itunes redownload the album artwork to get syncing to work again, I was aware already that the old ppc software would not work, my system is a 2009 macbook pro with 4gb of ram, nothing spectacular but everything dose work as advertised, my second monitor works just fine, my windows shares off of a 2008r2 windows server works just fine with active directory and is faster than l snow eopard ever was, there are some issues to fix on it but to me it looks as if it may be hardware specific or just people trying to update an old system with older software, I think apple should have released a iso version of the download so people could do a clean install , as for the people who did not back up there data before the update the problem lies between the chair and the keyboard, my 2 cents

You might be experiencing the impact of local backups. Lion keeps up to a weeks worth of TM like backups on your own disk. This makes it LOOK like the disk is filling up. Lion is using the "white space" on your disk while you are not. If you go to use that space, Lion will give it back in a hurry and won't allow it's use to exceed the 90% threshold in any case. Not to worry, you won't run out of disk space.

It isn't an actual .iso, but you can very easily make an install DVD or USB drive to do a fresh install of Lion.

You know what you are talking about! People need to make a backup before taking a step into a major software change (especially a new OS, be it OS X, Windows, Linux, Unix, etc, etc)

I wish more people realized that backups are the most important thing you must do for protecting their computer's (and possibly their own) way of life.

I'm sorry for seeming less than generous. It gets a bit like Groundhog Day on here. Oh, and we are all new users of Lion, just like you, not paid Apple employees. Why we should take **** from disgruntled customers, like humble shop assistants, I don't know.

I think the forum design could be improved. Perhaps with some sticky threads pointing to helpful articles "How to install Lion" etc and the more useful replies on here:

Hi Kids, I have been using mac's since I bought a SE30. I have made over 7 calls to Mac support. I have forgot more than anyone of their support techs. Out of my 7 calls I have been esculated 7 times. I have been though the thick and then times and have been a eairly adapotor for all the OS X versions. I have a Superduper! bootable back up and aTimer Machine backup. This is my opinon. This OS was designed to move iPad users over to the Mac. It has very little for us long time users. I think Steve Jobs was on sick leave and did not use this verion. I had two security issues that would keep me from puting this OS in the Enterprise. First, I run a Virus program and it finds 1 to 4 windows trojans every day. I had my junk mail script to exclude backups of that folder so they would not get replicated to my Time Machine Drive. I don't want them in my backup and I don't want to forward them to a Windows using friend or family. When I upgraded they removed my exclusions without notice and hid the Library folder without notice. This is all to help cut down their Tickets. If you want to just back up your mail it is now hidden. By the way the official Apple Policy is they do not support using the terminal to unhide that folder. I understand, but give a power user a choice. So I found this change by accident. SECURITY ISSUE!. Second, if you have restore enabled and accidently go to a malicous website, try to close the tab and the built in pop up blocker dose not work and add block dose not work. All you have is a pop up that disables the Safari menu and tow bad choices. Yes I want to leave and No I don't. they are both a endless loop. In the past I tought my friends and family to force quit. With resume, after a force quit you get that bad website restored and back in the loop. I am a Network Security Admin. I would not allow this in the Enterprise, even with the new sandboxing!

Next Issue; Launch Pad put 9 pages of apps, half were from a xp vm in Parallels. You can't delete them. You need two folders per page to get rid of them. I have too many apps in the doc. But 9 pages on a 24 inch monitor = worthless.

Next I was a big fan of pages. I absoultly hate the new Mission Control. I am old and cant tell what is running in my 6 desktops at the top. I can no longer drag a app from any desktop to any desktop and have it move, You can only do that from the active desktop, or expose desktop. I am having issues with applications that are supposed to be on all desktops, like chat, skype, face time, and Eye TV not moving with me when I change desktops. I am having issues with face time geting lost. Like I have to quit all apps, tell face time to turn off and back on to get the app to even show.

In pages i could click on a app and it would take me to that desktop it was on. Now the first click brings up the menu and maybe the second click will take me to the app.

I have always used the lower left hand corner to activate pages. Now I have a long way to mouse to the little desktops at the top. At least allow me to name them. You youngsters just wait until you get over 45 and see what it is like trying to tell the difference from netnews wire, safari or chrome in one of those little desktops at the top of Misson Control.

Read my lips, I have a24 inch monitor and I want to have at least 2 applications open on a desktop. Full screen is wortless and not a feature. If i have 2 monitors it is even worse.

I know this is supposed to make thing simpler for those 90% of users that use 3 apps on their iPad, iPhone, but real users find all these new features worthless....

Buuy the way I have a Mac Mini server. I alos have a family pack of Snow Leopard. All I wanted was Leopard and was forced to by server. So now all my family gets server? The new server lacks so many features it is worthless. I asked why I had to pay the extra $50. I was told by the server support group it was because I have server hardware. What a joke. I had several questions about the magic mouse and how the track pad works. Their support engineers don't even have one to test with. Come on Apple. All most every question I had was esculated. Sad. Thats all I have to say. I plan on a iPad purchase soon, but I putting off a new Mac purchase because I just don't like the direction this is going. Its ok to make things easier, but don't take away my options.... Now I am going to boot off my firewire bootable back up and go back to Snow Leopard. The best OS I ever used....

Being Apple user since 1985, I' ve learned a few things:

1.) If you have fairly recent hardware, you have less problems upgrading.

2.) If you have older hardware, it is your problem. It is not a problem that will be solved by Apple. So upgrade wisely (if you don't want to buy a new Mac). On my PB G4, I still run Tiger. Perfect couple!

3.) The same holds for "exotic" 3rd party software (I think Apple considers all 3rd party software as exotic). The less 3rd pty you have, the less problems. Communities can help.

Conclusion: as a private user, I usually upgrade early - just for fun. Regarding Lion, I can live with Lion's Cisco VPN client incompatibility (I also have a Win laptop).

But if I needed my Mac to earn money, I would wait.

Settle down are you kidding? I spent $30 and my machine runs worse, even though I haven't been able to install it. How about all the time I am wasting trying to get it sorted? Oh yes and Apple's solution to the problem is a half-day at least affair. If I didn't know Apple well enough (owned Apples since '79 & stock) I would say they deliberately made things awful for those of us with older machines so we upgrade with new ones. This release has been an epic fail (as has the new Safari which runs worse) and I hope they plan to do something for their loyal customers who have suffered greatly due to lack of adequate beta testing. I am disgusted with Apple right now.

Its pretty **** pathetic when the XP side of my partition MacPro runs better than the Mac OS side.

Everybody settle down about Lion!
