"This movie requires QuickTime, which is not supported by this version of iTunes."

I have a 27inch 2.7Ghz mid 11 model w Lion and iTunes 10.4. Getting an error message from iTunes "This movie requires QuickTime, which is not supported by this version of iTunes." Happens to some video podcast. For example, I did a search on el bulli and came across a list of Podcast Episodes. Video:A Day at El Bulli Book Lunch Party works but El Bulli: Cocina conc... by Emprendedores does not.

I must point out that it also says that I can not gather any information on Emprendedores because it's not available in the Australia Store, not sure if that's the reason why I can not view the video.

So, the latest two downloads from iTunes yesterday and this morning are now working, with no extra assistance from me. Apple must have adjusted something at the iTunes end - and hopefully, has done so across the board with their full lineup, because I'd hate to have to guess as to which of the next new (to me) seasons I download will encounter the same issue.

Anyone else now seeing things working again? Should I hold out hope that Apple actually is paying attention to these message boards? 😁

I too am on a recently upgraded to Lion iMac, with the latest version of itunes. I purchased a season pass to TopGear and it will not sync to my iPad. I tried apple support, the only solution was to download it from the cloud on the iPad (a much loooooooonger) download over wifi than a cable sync.

On a whim today I tried to play the shows on the iMac and go the error about QuickTime. I will try the work around, but really ... this has not been fixed yet?

This just keeps getting worse and worse.

Today's new episode of "The Big Bang Theory" just crapped the same way. New thing: when I switch to 32-bit mode and try to launch the new episode, iTunes now tells me my computer is not authorized to play the episode and then sits in a "Please wait while iTunes tries to get authorization" dialog infinite loop. After I cancel the dialog, I can launch (in 32-bit mode) without sound, then if I quit iTunes, set it to NOT run in 32-bit mode, it launches like it's supposed to.

I think maybe I should start complaining to CBS and ABC and FOX and NBC and everyone else who sends their season episodes to Apple, because clearly Apple isn't paying attention.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I make software for a living. Yes, we ship with bugs - but something this profoundly stupid of a screwup would never leave our building.

I have the same problem too, I have a Mac Pro mid-2009 with lion and the latest iTunes...

I have my iTunes folder stored in a time capsule due to the large size, the tv shows (Including ones that just came out, downloaded via season pass) don't work on the Mac, give me the "This movie requires QuickTime, which is not supported by this version of iTunes." error...

The episodes work fine from the apple tv! Also, when I connect my iPad to sync up the newest episodes they don't sync.

I tried the 32-bit mode trick, it allows me to sync my iPad (although with the tiny problem that the poster image won't show), but it plays fine on the iPad. On the Mac however, it asks for authorization and will play without sound.

it's an annoying problem, it doesn't bother me that I can't watch the episodes on my Mac cuz I mostly do on the tv, but I really need to take some tv shows with my on my iPad! Please apple fix this.

P.S.

When I copy the episodes to my MacBook pro via home sharing, the episodes play without problems. So the problem might be if the iTunes folder is not stored locally.

Ezats solution worked for me too - although I had the problem with a rental last night, so had switched to the 32-bit launch, then quit this morning and relaunched as 64-bit. But previously had problems with a couple of films bought from iTunes store, which is a bit poor...the problem that Apple will have with stuff like this is that people like me will start buying DVDs again if we can't rely on iTunes films to work first time, every time. A bit boring of a evening to have to start restarting stuff after you've sat down with your popcorn...

I've filed a bug report (I have a developer account) with Apple, but have no idea whether anything will ever get fixed.

In a separate issue, I'm also experiencing problems downloading one specific episode from one Season Pass I own. Not quite sure the two issues are related, but if you're looking for something else to entertain:

I just bought my iMac this week and I had ripped my entire movie/music collection using windows 7 64 bit and and was excited to finally be using the iMac. When I finally got the iMac to see my library there were many problems. It started with the certian songs could not be found even though they were there, and the artwork for my collections were partially missing. I repaired the music collection relatively easy, but the movie collection was a little harder. The art work for some movies could not be added and then I was getting the same error everyone else is complaining about "This movie requires QuickTime, which is not supported by this version of iTunes." I was so frustrated and wanted to throw my computer against the wall, but I ended up doing the same thing as Ezat:

- in iTunes, select the files that give this message

- delete them from the library BUT KEEP THE FILES in the filesystem

- then in iTunes, select 'File>Add to Library...' and find the deleted files on your hard drive.

Believe me this is a pain in the rump, but it worked!! I hope this helps anyone with the same issue as I had.

Later,

Tony

Ezat's solution worked for me too. Since I use the preference "Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library", I simply dragged my affected files into a new folder deleted the copies iTunes sending them to the Trash, dragged the files back in (waited for them to import) and they all played fine. The 32-bit toggle dance "fixes" files played while in 32-bit mode, but I'd prefer to run iTunes 64-bit so re-importing the files is a better option for me.

On an interesting note, I bought a "favorites volume 1" video set and one of the videos played fine and the rest got the "This movie requires QuickTime, which is not supported by this version of iTunes." error. So it may have been something going on at the time that affected the post download processing leaving the vidoes broken for 64-bit playback within iTunes (broken videos played fine in Quicktime).

Thank you much Tomeranaray and Ezat for all the help! Apple should be paying you chaps for doing their job for them. What bollocks it is to have to jump through such hoops to play itunes movies provided by apple, in itunes software provided by apple, on Imac's manufactured by apple with Apple OS system.

I could understand if ANY part of this process was provided by some 3rd party, but it's ALL Apple and still doesn't work..
