I can't login to FaceTime

Hi Everyone,

I purchased Mac OSX Lion from Apple store which came with Facetime, I can't login to FaceTime, it shows an error, "can't signin. Plz check your network connection and try again". Can anyone help ?

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7), Mac OSX Lion

Go to your system preferences → network → make sure WI-FI selected → advanced → DNS tab. Add 8.8.8.8 to the DNS servers. Go back to FaceTime and try to verify your account again. Let me know if that works.

The serial number is introduced using a software used by an Apple service center.

This software can be obtained by "googling" around, but it is at your own risk. If you entered an erratic number or number, you won´t have a second chance to correct it. Unfortunately , this problem arises when an incomplete job is done by a service center. Mostly happens when a motherboard is exchanged. So , if this your case and you have a service center near you, pay them a visit.

Hey—I'm coming in late to the game here, and I haven't read all six pages, but one point that may help those for whom douglas bray's 8.8.8.8 didn't work:

At first it didn't work for me either. Then it occurred to me, the old stand-by when nothing else works: turn off, turn on. So if you're trying to apply the 8888 while you have Facetime ON, turn it OFF. THEN follow douglas' instructions for the 8888, saving the changes, and then open Facetime again. That did it for us. Here's hoping it helps others also.

Thanks, douglas! Wish I could post points for you, friend.

If you don't see the serial number, then there are 2 possibilities you either take you mac to an Apple store and ask the service guys to install such number.( Highly probable that your motherboard has been replaced in an earlier service and the blokes forgot to introduce the number. The number should be the one printed in your receipt / carton box or at the base of your mac.) Or, if you feel comfortable, google the required software and make the job yourself. The risk is that the software gives you only one chance to do this. If you fail to introduce the correct number, no way to correct with a second chance...

Not sure what you all mean by 'WI-FI selected' in Network preferences. On my iMac 10.6 it has only Airport (Firewire, Ethernet) to choose from and to add DNS servers to. I added 8.8.8.8 to Airport DNS servers.

I have the same problem, and am trying to use Facetime on my iMac for the first time. (I use it on the iPhone.)

I switched Airport on, but have not connected my iMac to any network (all cables here, even printer).

And yes, I have tried restart, on/off, unplug external cam, etc.

Will try again, and again, but still my question remains: Where does it say WI-FI in System Preferences / Network?

Point of notice: I have changed my Apple ID password a few hours ago. Does this mean anything? iTunes account works fine.

Thanks

Paul
