Is anyone able to use Unsanity haxies with Lion?

When I had an initial problem with the WindowMizer program, I contacted the programmer/creator of the program, Chris, and he gave me this suggestion:

To smooth animations and eliminate black flicker, try this:

1) WindowMizer Prefs: CHECK: Show animation when windows are windomized/de-windowmized

2) Set the Dock pref to "Scale effect" instead of "Genie effect" so the animation is not so disconcerting.

3) Dock Prefs: SELECT: Minimize windows using: Scale effect
UNCHECK: Double-click a window's title bar to minimize
UNCHECK: Minimize windows into application icon

Let me know if this smooths out your application. It did wonders for me.

It should do the same for you.

I'd love to share this information with everyone who'd like to find a replacement for WindowShades, but don't know how to do that. I struggle to even post a comment here. Figuring out the sign in and then navigating to this particular part of the discussion take me forever. But it's worth it.

Thanks for the info. I did change doc to scale in system prefs. minimize windows was already unchecked.

I see NO preference for minimize windows into application icon.

what I do have is automatically hide and show the doc which I like to check

animate opening applications which is checked

show indicator lights of open applications

As for windowmizer prefs:

There is no show animation when windows are windomized....

what I do have is use default system window animation which it said to uncheck when using minimizer

I just checked it to see what will happen but that is when the window automaticallygoes to the dock but

the title stays on the screen. So I unchecked it again and it works better. Actually a tad faster now with

the other change to the dock (maybe)

substitute action menu title with application name of original window- not sure I want this, I'll see

under quit behavior it says:

ask to restore original window this one is checked

alays restore original windows

never restore original windows

close window behavior:

close windowMiser window only-this is checked.

close windowMizer window and original window

Just checking again as I really liked my customised coloured folders with Snow Leopard. What I found upseting and unethical is what was previously pointed out, that I had just paid for this haxie when I upgraded from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion and that was that! I wrote them asking what was up as it seemed tantamount to highway robbery to me if they had no plans to make their product compatible and never received a reply. I know it was only $15 and it might sound like a cliche to say it's the principal of the thing, but it is, and they should be held accountable legally for taking people's money virtually under false pretenses.

Yes I know they have that disclaimer on their website, but I also think they must have had an inkling as to what was up with Apple and their upgrades and if they could not keep up they should have taken the product off the market. Just one small voice crying in the wilderness.

I think you are going to have to chalk that up to a learning experience. Unsanity has not been one of the most honest of third party vendors for Mac I am sorry to say.

I feel your pain. I too was screwed by Unsanity. After researching them, I discovered that the guy ("Slava") who IS Unsanity quite literally lives in Russia and rents a PO box in Arizona from which he runs his criminal organization -- er, I mean, his "company." He has complete contempt for his customers and laughs all the way to the bank. He literally never responds to customer queries, and has an F from the Better Business Bureau. He hasn't updated the Unsanity website in over a year (after charging people in advance for Lion-compatible haxies which never materialized) and has completely pulled down the Forum section of the site.

Since he's based in Russia, he's pretty much untouchable by the law. He's a small time thug, and unfortunately he's screwed a lot of people. I suggest just moving on and ignoring him from now on.

Will do - but will keep checking here and of course searching myself to see if anyone does come out with a similar product. As a conceptual artist it was wonderful being able to keep my projects easily visible with the coloured folders and since it was so successful at what it did, I would think that someone else would be able to come up with something similar and which I would happily pay for.

Since the Unsanity products are called haxies, that sort of gives you a clue that what they are doing is not being done in the way that Apple want things done. As OS X has evolving, the ability for Unsanity to keep doing their haxs has become more and more difficult to implement.

I personally would not hold out much hope for someone else following the Unsanity path.

IMHO changing your workflow to use the native features of OS X is the way to go.

I am - but being able to actually colour the folders and not just the title was very cool and the colours with labelx were very vibrant. Oh well... we can't have it all - right now I would just settle for the new iMac - sigh...

Gotta agree with Allan on two of his recent points:

1. Anyone who gave money to these guys in the last year who had seen how they've done business in years past basically is basically getting what they deserve, sad to say. They have a long record of contempt for their customer base and are as vile a software developer in the Mac community as I've ever seen. I empathize with those who paid for nothing, I really do. but this is a classic case of caveat emptor.

2. Also agree that at this point, looking for non-native solutions to desired workflow processes is probably a bad idea. Apple is clearly moving in a direction which will preclude these kinds of solutions.

Yes. That is what I have always heard that Unsanity is 'cool'. IMHO cool was never worth that much hassle

It was years ago, maybe like 5 years, that a friend told me about their stuff. I liked FruitMenu, the one that allowed you to customize menus, and there was one other. Never got into Windowshade, but I bought it.

But then I would see them not deliver updates for 6-9 months after a major OS release and I realized this was not someone I wanted to tie my workflows around. I also saw that as the OS evolved, their hooks into it were becoming more tenuous, and the results were becoming increasingly less stable, which was also a red flag for me.

I'm very glad to say I haven't had their crap on my computer for about 2 years now. Just sad that there are still probably some folks who will throw money at this crook.

Really? People paid for updates in advance! That is a new one on me, but I suppose that it's just natural selection at work.

Way back when I first moved from os9.2 to OSX I bought three haxies for a very reasonable price and got 10+ good years of service out of them on several computers. Never had to pay for an upgrade or a new lisence. I am sorry if those who got on board lately have been left with a bitter tase in their mouths, but I feel I got good service. Overall, I have more sympathy with Unsanity than with Apple. Given the way the haxies work, it can't have been easy for them keeping up with the fundamental changes in the OS. Lion and ML are a nightmare to use and I guess it's is worse if you are trying to make a haxie run.

Unless you live in Russia too, you better be careful what you write. People here in the UK are going to jail because of what they post on internet forums, and what you wrote sounds to me like grounds for a civil case.

WOW: Sounds like the UK needs to enact a Freedom of Speech Act!

Could you post a couple of links to such situations? Sounds like a flagrant abuse of human rights, and I would be shocked to discover that what you say (being imprisoned for internet postings) is true!
