Is anyone able to use Unsanity haxies with Lion?

To me it appears that the direction that OS X has taken especially with the use of the Sandbox to protect things from harmful code, it has made it to difficult for Unsanty continue.

Agreed, and yet so many other developers have had no problems updating their software, so it really doesn't say much for Unsanity as a developer. I am sure that all their software will be easily replaceable in the near future by developers who make an effort to produce programs that are completely free of the ols PPC coding.

Level 3 is a respectable level to reach and you must have been around the block once or twice. However, this is the dumbest reply I've seen on this web site. You seem to be disparaging Windowshad and its users and you don't even know what IT is! Come on grow up a bit.

Sorry to flame you. But why don't you make yourself a SL partition and try Windowshade. I use it several times an hour. I also use spaces several times an hour. To give you an idea why Windowshade users are so irate, I can honestly say that if asked to choose between Windowshade and Spaces I would take Windowshade.

WindowShade was a nice utility, and I gave it an extensive demo, but for me, I eventually deleted it. Just found it awkward and cumbersome to use.

But I can understand why others might find it valuable. Just didn't fit my style and workflow.

Love Spaces, however.

I thought we went over this several months ago.

It isn't because of PPC coding at all.

I took the APE framework and underlying system binaries apart months ago. It's all using fat binarys which have both PPC and Intel code in them. An APE module like Window Shade for instance is required to run on both Intel and PPC.

No it's a simple check designed to stop the fiasco of a previous system update. I don't personally know how complicated a fix for Unsanity's haxie's is as I'm not a programmer and have yet to make my way through the behomoth that is John Siracusa's review of Mountain Lion.

As an update to this situation ?

I've followed their twitter feeds for several months now , since the issue come up in this forum.

They made that post back in November 2011 basically amounting to "throw us money and we'll consider updating them"

Just after that there was a twitter from one of the lead programmers how if Apple didn't change how Lion does something there will be no more Unsanity haxies ever again.

Then narry a peep was heard after that.

Very dissappointing on their part. I'm glad Ididn't pay the anymore. That is no way to run a business. Apple still uses that fold up technology on their sticky notes at least as far as Lion goes, so I don't see what they cannot do the same for windowshade. I don't believe they cannot do it and I wish Apple would take over that philosophy, but then I don't see Apple these days listening all that will either to what "the rest of us" would like.

I simply think that Unsanity's programmers got tired of doing low level Hacks in OS X.

It is not a large number of customers who would pay for them and future updates to them to make it worth them time and effort to understand how the operating system works at the deepest levels.

Much more money can be made writing apps for the iOS and Mac App Stores - writing useful applications which have a wider audience than esoteric mods to OS X.

It is not a matter of Apple's new Gatekeeper. You can simply have your software signed and use Gatekeeper's middle level of security - which will be necessary to run non-Mac App store apps anyway - such as Microsoft Office, etc.

The gains from all that work became simply too small.

Understandably, they left for better pastures and opportunities - leaving the Unsanity Website a ghost town.

I have zero problem with them making this decision, if that is what they did.

I have little problem with them lagging in development, always significantly behind the new OS.

What I have a huge problem with, and the reason why I have zero respect for these jerks, is their utter contempt for their PAID customer base. If what you wrote above, Marianco1, is true, then how difficult would it have been for them to put something up on their blog to that effect, thank people for the money they've given them over time, apologize that it's come to an end, and then walk away with a little bit of class and dignity?

Answer: not hard at all. It's something they could've done in 5 minutes time.

But as I've consistently maintained, these developers hold their customer base in pure contempt. They refuse to communicate. I've never seen a developer treat their paid customers this poorly. Shame on them and I hope they never find work in the software field again.

After I got my 27" iMac six months ago, it came with Lion. My Unsanity WindowShades no longer worked. Now I've got Mountain Lion, which is even farther from Windowshades. After going through hours of fruitless searching and experimenting, I gave up on Unsanity's WindowShades.

However, I've discovered an app that is very much like Unsanity Windowshade. It works beautifully. It's called WindowMizer. It can be found either at RGBWorld, or the Mac App Store. It cost me $9.95.

I spoke with Chris, the inventor and programmer of this app. Though the app works great now, he told me it will be even better in two weeks when he tweaks a few little things and sends out the update.

I loved the Windowshade app because I have to have a lot of windows on my desktop when working.

It's a drag to minimize them by have them get sucked into the dock...then "unsucked" back onto the desktop when needed. I need to see the title of each window on the desktop to easily open and shut the window, without losing the title bar.

This app is certainly the answer. I'd give it 4 1/2 stars out of 5. It'll get 5 with the updates. I couldn't be happier.

Thank you for finding this new application. I decided to go ahead and make the purchase. I've only had it a few minutes, but it looks like it will do what I used to with window shade which I really miss. I'm not sure yet if this new app will operate the same way as it is an app and not a system pref. I guess this is how it has to be with the newer system. I'm not sure yet what the developer is going to tweak, but I'll look forward to it. I'm on Lion now but hope to move up to mountain lion soon. I'll mention this new app on the online apple user group... I think this will help with more subscriptions.

Hi, Ellen.

When I spoke with Chris, I told him the the animation of the file zipping to the dock, while the title bar stays in place, is an unneccesary distraction for me. Here's what he wrote to me:

I will be releasing an update in about 2 weeks that provides smoother shading and a better fix for the black screen issue that will allow shading without the animation of the window going to the Dock

So, needless to say, I'm very pleased about all of this and am using the program liberally as I work now.

I appreciate your relief on this issue, as well. There are a lot of us in this situation. So far I haven't had a glitch, once I changed a few perameters that he suggested I change. At first my entire screen went to black, then came back with the change. But after checking or unchecking a few preferences, it worked perfectly.

Good stuff. Thanks for mentioning this to other users. I'm not as skilled at using this medium as I'd like to be.

When I first went to the app store, nothing came up, but I did find it from the RGB site and bought it there, but I went to app store to check on the review... there were not many. One of the criticisms was the delay it took to fold up a window. It is true that it does take just a tad longer than I'd like... which would be good to fix. I don't think I have a black screen issue unless it has to do with Mountain Lion which I don't have yet. I also don't know what you mean by the file zipping to the dock. One of my windows went to the dock but I thought it was because I clicked it an extra time? Will see how it goes!
