Is anyone able to use Unsanity haxies with Lion?

I really like Unsanity's WindowShade X and Labels X haxies which I began using with Tiger and also installed last December on a Snow Leopard machine. I have not had any trouble with them on either system. Checking the Internet, I can't find any info about whether or not they work in Lion, which I have not yet upgraded to. Anyone else dealing with or interested in this issue?

Unsanity is not gonna be able to reinvent their haxies to work with Lion and more specifically with Mountain Lion.

Apple is sandboxing all applications so that they live within their own space, they can not access other applications, can not access any part of the Core OS system. .. GET OVER IT PEOPLE ..

By definition, a haxie/hack is bypasses sandboxing by modifying the Core OS and acting as an integral part of the Core OS. It will completely and transparently work with OS X Mountain Lion, even at the highest level of security.

The only thing holding up Unsanity is whether or not they have good enough contract programmers who can work at such a deep operating system level. Luckily, the underlying core of OS X - Darwin - is open source. But there are only a few programmers are skilled enough to do this on OS X - i.e. programmers skilled enough to whip up their own operating system and know OS X at a deep systems level.

I sure would like to find a way to color the icons in LION and MOUNTAIN LION - like I can with Snow Leopard 10.6.8 using Unsanity's Haxie LABELS-X. Plus I can sort on that (like I can in the standard Finder labels).

As I am not yet on LION - does anyone know if one can color the ICON and not just the text? That's all I want to do. (Besides get color icons back in the Lion Finder, iTunes and iPhoto siderbars…)

Thanks,

Steve

There are other hacks around if you search for them (for Lion). As for Mountain Lion, no one knows because it is only available in developer releases, so for all anybody knows they may be in ML. Don't hold your breath for Unsanity to catch up.

It sure takes courage to come back and show your face on this thread after oxcart's thrashing of you earlier for your "dumbest reply... on this website!" But I am sure, you did so, in order to redeem your reputation by constructively adding to the knowledge sought out by the latest thread poster...

I can't believe people are resurecting this old thread. Windowshade (whatever THAT was) has obviously not been developed any further by this Unsanity Mob. It's not Apple's fault. Get over it.

Level 3 is a respectable level to reach and you must have been around the block once or twice. However, this is the dumbest reply I've seen on this web site. You seem to be disparaging Windowshad and its users and you don't even know what IT is! Come on grow up a bit.

Sorry to flame you. But why don't you make yourself a SL partition and try Windowshade. I use it several times an hour. I also use spaces several times an hour. To give you an idea why Windowshade users are so irate, I can honestly say that if asked to choose between Windowshade and Spaces I would take Windowshade.

What does the latest poster seek? Oh, right, he has not updated yet to Lion, but wants to know if he can color ICONS and not the text.

With your tremendous knowledge of this subject matter, you offer the otherwise unknown suggestion: "There are other hacks around if you search for them..." and "[d]on't hold your breath for Unsanity to catch up."

There is an old adage that my Father taught me: It is better to remain silent and be thought a FOOL, than to speak out and REMOVE ALL DOUBT!

Ummmm, let's turn down the heat a little bit.

I think most of us here are frustrated --or VERY frustrated-- by the lack of windowshading and some other functions formerly available from Unsanity.

Slamming Apple or Unsanity is not going to accomplish anything. Nor is slamming other posters. We all come at this from different places, with different experience and different needs. Let's take a breath. And do our best to give each other the benefit of the doubt.

As no one can use Unsanity haxies in 10.7.x and there seems microscopic prospect of this changing, this thread seems to have reached the end of its usefulness. For me, windowshading is the most important issue. I've started a new thread How to live without windowshading?.

given my experience with petermac87 on his responses to my posts on other threads (and seeing the consistency of how he continues to, at best, add useless information, such as here; or, at worst, suggest to others incorrect information), there is no "doubt" for which to give him the benefit of...

oxcart said it best [see quote above]! It was my hope that such recriminations will lessen petermac87's attempt to have something "important" to say in the future on most posts, and certainly on mine!

That being said, I will leave this thread. Best of luck with windowshading in a cooler environment! 🙂

I very much like the functionality of Unsanity's products, but it's very clear the company has zero integrity. It takes them months (if not more) to upgrade around a new OS and they clearly view their customer base with absolute contempt. If there's a company that does a worse job of communicating with their customers, I've never encountered them.

I uninstalled all their stuff when I installed Snow Leopard. So now it seems they haven't even upgraded all their stuff for Lion, and now a new OS is coming out?

Classic. simply classic. In my opinion, anyone who keeps giving these clowns money is simply foolish. Their track record is plain: they will NOT keep their software current, they do NOT care what you think, and they will NOT communicate with you.

Some developers are just lazy and unethical. And this describes Unsanity perfectly.

Yeah, they're not listening. And I don't think they particularly care.

I really like their stuff. I used MenuMaster, and then Fruit Menu, wasn't a huge fan of WindowShade but I was a paid owner of it, and then one other of their haxies. But it was apparent this developer is simply non-responsive.

I would guess they do something else full time as their main source of income and they devote some measure of their spare time to Unsanity stuff, and lately they've just let it go begging. I'm serious when I say their users should wise up and realize who they are (or in this case, aren't) dealing with and respond accordingly.

I saw questions on their own website and blog never answered. They're certainly not going to respond or listen here.
