Is anyone able to use Unsanity haxies with Lion?

I really like Unsanity's WindowShade X and Labels X haxies which I began using with Tiger and also installed last December on a Snow Leopard machine. I have not had any trouble with them on either system. Checking the Internet, I can't find any info about whether or not they work in Lion, which I have not yet upgraded to. Anyone else dealing with or interested in this issue?

Further to my reply just now, the thing that I miss in the Unsanity haxie, after many years, is Windowshade, which, on double clicking the bar at the top of any window, the window "rolls up" into the top and just leaves a bar on the screen. This is good for temporarily partly clearing the desktop. Having a quick look at FinderPop shows that it doesn't offer that.

Does anyone know of a utility that can do that?

As stated in previous post. Unsanity is a 'pain-in-the-***'. WindowshadeX-nothing else out there. Never has been. Would have been very easy for Apple to have kept this in there OS over the years. Transparency, I see that several apps, such as Safari, have it. Would be nice all-around. Would also like to see Force-Empty-Trash. None of the programs I had now work. Back to Unsanity, don't be surprised to not have them update. They have made a bundle over the years. I see a lot of company's gone because of the update. And with the ecomony the way it is, I am not surprised.

So don't go to Lion, no one is holding a gun to your head and forcing you to update to 10.7.

Why does everyone think they have to go the latest version as soon as it's released.
Does everything work on your non Lion system now? What features in Lion make you have to update.

I have found nothing in Lion that makes me want to turn our MacPros into huge iPads.

I also have a machine that runs Leopard because our imposition plugins and RIP software were never updated to run under SnoLeo

I have no crashes, I have no apps that don't perform the way they should.

I am running 10.6.5

I don't know about Windowshade but I'm running APE 2.6.1 and ASM on a MBA with 10.7.

I don't know if it will "install" but I exported it via 10.6.8 backup off an external USB drive. Took 9-1/2 hours. Brutal.

I was told both APE & ASM wouldn't work and had resigned myself to living without the Application Menu on the upper right for the first time in decades. Surprise when it just worked.

To me, a Mac is not a Mac without the App Menu....

It is difficult to know whether Unsanity are still in business, what with all the messages people have sent them with no reply. Their site shows that the last time they launched an update for any of their products was 27 March 2011 (Menumaster). Snow Leopard was launched by Apple in June 2009 yet Unsanity took until 15 November 2010 to upgrade WindowshadeX – 17 months!. WindowshadeX 5.0.7 (the current version) has on my computer (OS 10.7):

"Mac OS X version too new. Application Enhancer has not been tested on Mac OS X 10.7 and therefore WindowShade X will not be loaded."

So lets not hold our breath. Their Weblog has the latest date of posting as February 2010. Perhaps they are on a really good holiday!

For Bluspacecow

In your message of August 11 you wrote:

"...considering a competing utility company has already put out something that does something like Windowshade does. The only issue is it's not perfect and doesn't have the same feature set WS does. And it's also more expensive to register then WS. It's not as highly polished as Window Shade is."

I have given up on Unsanity. Could you please tell me who this company is (web address would be nice).

Thanks.

Hmmm... what's the trick for ASM?

I have two machines that were SL-to-Lion upgrades, and ASM works. I have another machine that came with Lion, and ASM does not work. The copy of MenuCracker it contains is the old non-Lion-compatible one.

I've tried replacing the MenuCracker in it, it doesn't work., although that trick works with other things like MenuMeters.

Meanwhile on the shipped-with-Lion machine, I'm using XAssist again while I keep checking the ASM web site for an update.

I deleated my APE and tried a downloaded version to no avail. All I want is Windowshade X. There is nobody out there with anything similar. I think Unsanity is done. No email replies and nothing on website. Main page 'not found'. What is ASM? As I stated before, very easy for Apple to include this feature that everybody wants, as well as transparancy, which seems to be included in several apps.

Matt the ASM you linked does not use the Application Enchancer framework at all.

I just installed it and no .ape files are installed to ~/Library/Application Enchancers or /Library/Application Enchancers. Furthermore there is no ape process running after install and APE still reports as my haxies as disabled.

I believe you may be confusing ASM with Menu Master.

Please prove APE is working for you by recording a video of you going to the Apple Menu and showing you are on 10.7 , then going into System Preferences -> Application Enchancer. Then install Windowshade and show us double-clicking a window title to hide it.
