Is anyone able to use Unsanity haxies with Lion?

Your understanding would be incorrect sir.

It actually is a simple matter - for someone who has access to the source code. I've made a detailed analysis of how APE and the unsanity haxies.

All they need to do is remove the Rosetta requirement , strip the PPC code out of the haxies and insert a new variable into their SDK.

I am personally not taking much stock in that message as it didn't come from Unsanity - that was a comment left on their blog not an announcement from there. I am a registered user as well and have yet to see this mysterious email apparently sent.

Could some kind person (perhaps your good self) bring the haxies back to life. I need only WindowshadeX! Or write a simple routine that rolled up windows. I would pay for that.

Anyone who values this feature should consider doing likewise. The more people who do, the more likely that Apple will do it.

I did the same. Urge others to do so too. Problem is there's no one clear topic to send the request under. As a result the interest gets diluted/scattered.

Perhaps someone can suggest a common topic to place the requests into?

I fear this falls on deaf ears at Apple as it does at Unsanity. I suspect some form of collusion between the two, for whatever reason. It couldn't be that difficult to do include given Apple's approach to user interface, and the fact that it was part of System 9 over ten years ago.

Bewildered, and at least for the moment will not install Lion as a result.

I completely agree about the collusion, Apple has always wanted 'complete control' over everything it does. There has never been another company other than Unsanity to come up with a Windowshade. I also noted several apps have the ability for transparancy under Lion, but you can't do anything with the main window. Wierd. Apple can be a real pain in the ***. They never seem to care what the the consumer is looking for.

I use customized XMenu (Devon) as a substitute for FruitMenu. Without FruitMenu, Xounds and Window Shades, Lion is of no use to me. Lion is on one partition and SL on another. Looks as if I will use SL for an indefinite period. I have sent requests to bring back these apps directly to Apple for about 7 years. I guess there are too few interested users, so the requests are ignored.

XMenu is excellent, as is Butler (ManyTricks) which I use. I do miss FruitMenu's contextual menu feature, and WindowShade, but will continue using Lion without them. I hope someone can take advantage of this opportunity to replace these, and be a hero.

Here is something a bit more conclusive direct from Slava at Unsanity today, when I asked if there was any chance of Unsanity haxies being updated for Lion.

"Yes, unfortunately Lion features a somewhat changed system architecture so Application Enhancer has to be massively rewritten. =( …so I can't give definite ETAs on when and how. Sorry for that!"

So, there is hope yet. However, having been now forced to use the "send to Dock" native Mac feature (I having set a double click on the title bar of a page to do that), I have got used to it and no longer miss WindowshadeX much. If it doesn't come back, so what.

Unsanity's last blog entry was February 16, 2010 = 17 months ago!

I miss Windowshade greatly, but have been told it's no longer doing business. Makes sense, given the date of their last updates on anything. If that's the case, let's all write to Apple and ask them to include it in the next Lion update.

In the meantime, Lion contains fabulous features that make it extremely worthwhile, not least of which is the ability to have multiple desktops that are easy to set up and function differently but as a substitute for Windowshade.

Nothing Apple has compares to Windowshade. I will not go Lion until absolutely forced to. From what I've read it I'm not missing much, at least in my personal workspace. Love Apple, but their sadly missing the point here.

Having multiple desktops is time consuming and clumsy; and does nothing to mitigate the problem of several open "being used" windows.

It's not unusual for me to have several windows in play at once: ftp, an html editor, several html pages, photoshop, et.al. on the desktop at the same time - without WS that would be 8 or more "icons" in the doc, none of them easily identifiable, and time consuming to view/open/ etc.

WS makes it much faster to have a small window bar with visible title in a given position on my monitor, where I left it a few minutes ago.

Nothing comes close to Windowshade. It's so obvious and useful I don't understand why Apple abandoned it.

Unsanity is not updating their haxies for Lion that s true, but that is Apple fault, not Unsanity's
the OS was drastically changed with Lion
