AirDrop Invalid Apple ID

I am trying to use AirDrop between two of my Macs over wifi. I can see the other Mac clear as day, but when I drop the file onto the user circle I get the error, "The Apple ID certificate for "DLR2" is invalid. The transfer has been canceled."

Any suggestion? Thank you.

I have an iMac and a Macbook Pro. Both worked fine with AirDrop but one day got out of sync. To fix the problem, I went into System Preferences | Users & Groups, then clicked on the Change button adjacent to the Apple ID section. I entered my system password, when prompted, clicked on the email address associated with my Apple ID, and then clicked the "minus sign" button to remove my Apple ID. Next, I clicked on the "plus sign" button, entered the email address and password associated with my Apple ID, and tried AirDrop. It worked perfectly.

Keep in mind, this is the same Apple ID, used on two different systems. If you can't get it to work, I'd suggest removing and re-adding it to one system and trying it, as stated above. If that doesn't work, try to remove and re-add it to the second system.

I had this same problem. I noticed that my Keychain (spotlight search: Keychain Access) had duplicate public keys for my AppleId. I deleted all my Public and Private AppleId keys, restarted Finder, and the AirDrop transfer worked. I would also probably go ahead to System Preferences -> Users & Groups and delete and readd my AppleId after doing this.

Macbook Pro to iMac, two different Apple IDs: on the sending macbook message is 'waiting for' then 'iMac declined'. On reverse it's the 'invalid Apple ID' message. Deleted and re-entered IDs on both systems, no joy. Tried putting both IDs on both computers - no joy. Last shot - sign out of iCloud (system preferences) start the transfer - worked straight away - then signed back into iCloud. Transfer continues, all is well with the world.

This would appear to be a conflict with iCloud (y'think Dinozzo?) that can be rectified by signing out and in again - not sure if the fix is persistent, it's a 5Gb file and I'm about 20% through now. By the way, the proper spelling of 'color' is 'colour.' 🙂

Solution:

Go to System Preferences> Users & Groups, Delete the Apple id and then reinsert again on both the systems. Done.

Force Quit finder on both systems before you start and then start using airdrop.

Thanks:)

The first half of psr24's suggestion worked for me. I didn't have to force quit finder or reboot.

I'm pretty sure the reason this worked for me is because I had changed my Apple ID passwords awhile back. Deleting and adding back the ID in Users & Groups allowed me to update the passwords on the two MacBooks.
